MEDICAL TECHNGLCJGY The role of the medical technologist as an allied health professional is to develop laboratory data used in the detec- tion, diagnosis, and treatment of many diseases. Multiple complex laboratory analyses are performed on blood and other body fluids using precision instruments such as microscopes, autoanalyzers, radio-isotope detectors and various types of photometers. The med. tech. has in depth knowledge in the 4 major areas of the clinical laboratory- hematology, microbiology, clinical chemistry and immuno- hematology. ln accepting the responsibilities of this profes- sion, the med. tech. must recognize the interdependency of the analytical tests performed in each area and must be able to make interpretive judgments that influence the diagnosis and X or treatment of patients.
