Good Times Week Hot. humid, sticky Baton Rouge. What a place to spend the next four years. So were the thoughts of 6.925 incoming freshmen. To help smooth over the difficulties of getting adjusted to LSU. the University sponsored sev- eral activities to intro- duce students to each other and campus life. The first activity many freshmen encountered was rush. Sororities had 1.007 girls participating, while fraternities had over 1.200 men to rush. At the end. more than 1.200 men and women pledged Greek organiza- tions. While rush was going on. the Union Campus Inter- action Committee sponsored Good Times Week. It started off with a Patio Po-Boy party, wher e freshmen got one of their first chances to meet each other. Also offered was O. R.G.I. (Or- ganization for Recreation and Group Involvement) which encouraged freshmen to get involved. The various Union committees explained their projects and recruited freshmen as committee members. For film buffs, movies were offered every day in the Tiger Uair and the Colonnade Theatre. For the music freaks, a free concert was held in the Greek Theatre. For those who like to boogie, there were two dances, one Saturday night and the other on Vednesda . The last program was a free movie It ' s a Mad. Mad. Mad. Mad World: a perfect description of what people faced in the next three days known as Registration. For those of you who were new at the game, it was usually referred to as Ring Around the Rosie. During these three days. innocent freshmen learned to lie. cheat and steal to obtain the desired class cards. But despite it all. one realized what LSU has to offer and decided it must be worthwhile. As people and places became more familiar, you could sit back and enjoy years at LSU. 23
