nr- Football, the social highlight of the fall season for LSU, spawned other happenings like the Pajama Game this year with Rice pep rallies, bonfires, and, of course, the Ole Miss Riots. The Tiger footballers were expected to be low this season but sur- prised many by winning their first 3 games before losing 3 and tying one in the next 5. By smashing their last 2 opponents they were able to sign a Sugar Bowl Contract. In the style of the season by coming from behind, the Tigers took Wyoming 20-13, and SGA received spurs from Wyoming, thus eliminat- ing the problem of packing an alligator to send to Laramie. Pete Maravich and his father, Coach Press, led the Tiger bas- ketballers to their first winning season since 1961

While SGA presented Press with a basketball for bringing basketball back to LSU, Pete was collecting his own by scoring over 1,000 points to become the first sophomore in the country to attain this honor. His passing, rebounding, and ball-handling, as well as shooting, saw him named to every All-America Team, and he was the AP and UPI choice for the Outstanding Southeastern Conference Player, as well as being selected for the Olympic Team Tryouts. The exciting brand of ball the Tigers played this year packed coliseums throughout the South and made the Pom-Pom girls ' cheers anti climactic , ; .r- 3
