by campus groups this year. Among the testers were Igor Bubnov, First Ambassador of the Soviet Embassy in Washington D.C., who gave stu- dents a Russian view of world developments. A fine array of speakers which included Winthrop Brown, former Ambassador to Korea, Mark Lane, author of Rush to Judgment, Father Joseph Fletcher, author of Situation Ethics, Felix Greene on Red China and Vietnam, Maxwell Taylor on Vietnam, and James Farmer with his views on the Negro in America helped to keep the student well-informed despite Senate Bill 21, the Speaker Ban Bill. Only one speaker, Paul Boutelle, a candidate for Vice President who is a Negro Socialist taxi-cab driver, was forced off-campus. In no other case did the university succumb to outside pressure

The University exists to investigate our world. Man has ' created it man strives for academic excellence here. The library, the tower, the quad, all symbolize the pursuit of learning that is emphasized in the labs and classrooms at LSU. The university offered new courses for credit, as well as the Free University for non-credit, with courses such as The City and the Morality of Agitation. The Alum- ni Association honored Louisiana ' s top high school scholars and offered them large scholarships in a special competition. Research at the university continued to produce a number of results from a mechanical heart to better shrimp- breeding methods. LSU opened new branches at Shreveport and Eunice both commuter colleges, which will relieve the pressure on the freshman classes on the main campus. LSU converted to the four point system at the beginning of the fall semester. Four new buildings: Lockett Hall, a new classroom building; the Life-Sciences Building; the Law Center in the rear of the present Law Building, and the new women ' s dorm, Miller Hall, were under construction in LSU ' s attempt to keep growing with its enrollment of 18,500.
