A TIME TO CELEBRA TE All hopes for the future of America were centered in the Philadelphia conven- tion when it opened in May I787, lf the conven- tion failed the young na- tion might never be formed into a working union. But failure was not acceptable to the dele- gates. Success was the only possible outcome. In August I787, nine states ratified the Constitution. The United States was born. l987 marks the Zwth birthday of the birth of a nation. For two centuries the durable instrument of government fashioned by the founding fathers has stood on the principle of all that is admirable in the American spirit and an inspiration to all those yearning for a decent life. l987 also marks the begin- ning of a two year cele- bration of freedom. The Constitution was followed in I79l by the adoption of the Bill of Rights which still stands today as the basic guidelines of our freedom amd our Ameri- can values.

MALL EXPANSION The Alexandria Mall re- cently opened a new ad- dition. There are 75 new stores with Mervyns and Dillards as two of the ma- ior department stores. There is also a Market Place where you can feast on many different varieties of dishes. The new Mall now contains 244,lO3 square feet of new stores.
