Dr. Leis direcfed fhe men's classes in nine weeks each of golf, fencing, weighf fraining, and fennis. Miss Cooper insfrucfed fhe girls in similar courses wifh fhe addifion of a class in dynamic dancing. To meef course requiremenfs, fhe sfudenfs also parficipafed in physical fifness fesfs ranging from fhe maximum number of sif- ups fhaf could be done in one minufe fo running fhe mile. Addifional courses for sfudenfs maioring in Healfh and Physical Educafion were offered fo supplemenf fheir physical educafion background. LSUA's modesf Healfh and Physical Educafion area and facilifies proved adequafe for such a varied pro- gram in ifs firsf year of operafion. The acfivifies of fhe hourly 25-pupil class Ioad were divided befween fhe renovafed frame building housing dressing and exercise rooms, showers, and insfrucfors' offices, and a fiffeen acre ouf-door physical educafion area. The Iaffer is 'rhe Iocafion of fwo fennis courfs. fwo fouch foofball fields. a puffing green, a golf driving range, and a soffball diamond. Also in fhe area is a mulfi-purpose concrefe slab for oufdoor volleyball and baslcefball and a verfical wall for fennis rebounding pracfice and hand- balI.'IDue fo ever increasing sfudenf body, gymnasiums for bofh men and women have been placed high on fhe consfrucfion priorify lisf. Pafricia Pafferson gefs a few poinfers from Ann Vidrine on fhe 'rennis rebound courfs. Befly physical education INSTRUCTORS The LSUA physical educafion program is direcfed by Dr. Hans Leis and Miss Sylvia Cooper. Dr. Leis. who is in charge of fhe men's classes, received his B.S. from Louisiana Col- lege. I-Ie earned his MA. and Ph.D. from Colorado Sfafe College and Louisiana Sfafe Universify respecfively, and was formerly head baskefball coach af Bolfon I-Iigh School in Alexandria. Miss Cooper is a graduafe of Soufheaslern Louisiana College and direcfs fhe acfivifies of fhe women's physical educa- fion deparfmenf.
