comsitastonts On Labor Day of 1983, the Louisiana School for Math, Science, and the Arts opened its doors to a special group of people -- the class of 1985. They experienced the mistakes, restrictions, and disap- pointments that accompanied the program in its first year. Despite the difficulties -- inadequate dormitory security, makeshift cafeteria facilities ithe South wing of Bossier Halli, limited classroom and office space fthe first floor of Prudhomme Halli, and everyone's favorite rule-a-day program - these juniors persevered to earn their status as seniors. Through the hardships of living away from home with nothing better to do on a Satur- day night than walk to Burger King and be verbally abused by Bud-drinking rednecks driving pick-up trucks sporting Rebel flags and mud tires, they grew together and formed a famiIy,turning two dorms, a volleyball net, and 4,800 badminton birdies into a home. Our first class, the Seniors of 1985, laid the foundation and formed the corner- stone for the only public residential high school for math, science, humanities, and the fine arts in the United States.
