Student Activities Student activities at LSMSA require that students become involved. These activities bring the students closer together, and make them feel more like a family. These activities range from required to optional, from fun to mundane, from Grand Opening to Prom. At LSMSA, focus is placed on a community of scholars . In order to have a community, people must know each other and be willing to help each other. Student activities begins the act of everyone meeting everyone, starting with the barbecue-dance, the first night. Other activities throughout the year promoted the comrnunity'f effect. For instance, complaining about 9:00 guest speakers on Saturday mornings was a group grumble. Student activities are a unifying element at LSMSA. qw Governor David G. Treen speaks at Grand Dr. Alost, director of the Louisiana School, recites everyone's favorite analogy, quoting Robert Frost's The Road Not Taken . Opening. Treen passed legislation authorizing the Parents, students and visitors enjoy refreshments under a tent set up for formation of the school and allocating funds to the occasion behind Prudhomme. LSMSA.

9 Parents and legislators travelled across the state to attend the Grand Opening. After the ceremony, everyone visited behind Prudhomme. Mr. Stan Powell, deputy director of LSMSA, delivers his most memorable speech to the assembly. Harrison Brace The chosen one , picked by the administration to speak on behalf of the students. The Grand Opening of the Louisiana School for Math, Science, and the Arts was held on Thursday, September 29, 1983. Rehearsals were held on Wednesday afternoon, it took almost an hour to sit all the students in alphabetical order. However, the most remembered preparation are the meetings called to learn Gaudeamus Igitur, the song no one could interpret. Governor Dave Treen was the Guest speaker at the ceremony. After the ceremony the assembly left AA. Predricks Fine Arts Building, proceeding to Prudhomme Hall for the ribbon-cutting and refreshments. Grand Opening was very significant to members of the Senior Class of 1985, because we will be the first, and we are setting the precedent for all future classes.
