THE PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE Dear Tech Students: It is again my happy and honored privilege, for the eighth consecutive year, to extend you greetings and best wishes through the medium of the Lagniappe, and to register commendation for the excellent spirit of cooperation exemplified by everyone throughout th e session. Although at times world tensions have threatened to alter normal thinking and actions, our college not only has remained stable but also has made remarkable strides. Most certainly, the enrollment of more than 3,000 students, the completion of a $2,500,000 expan¬ sion program, and the start of a $2,325,000 revenue producing building plan which will embrace the con¬ struction of three new dormitories, a student center, and the addition to dining facilities will designate the 1956- 1957 session as the most progressive in the 61-year history of our college. However, more important than these developments is the fact that high academic standards have been maintained in all departments of the institution. The faculty in many areas of instruction has been strengthen¬ ed, all departments of engineering have been accredited nationally for the first time, and special interest has been manifested in all phases of extra-curricular activity. May you cherish ever the memories of this, your year, at Tech; and may your accomplishments in the classroom and the laboratory and your associations in all segments of campus life serve as a bulwark of strength as you challenge the future. Faithfully yours R. L. Ropp President The President’s home. Mr. and Mrs. Ropp at an mformal tea. A real Bulldog supporter! 21
