a message from the President I Dear Tech Students: As has been my policy in the past in presenting this annual message to you through the medium of the Lagniappe, I wish again to express appreciation for the cordial feeling and kindly attitude exhibited by all of you. Truly, you have demonstrated to the fullest extent that Tech is “The Friendliest College Campus in the South.” Although a feeling of uneasiness still prevails throughout the world and momentous problems both at home and abroad are facing us, we presently can view the future with more confidence than has been our fortune in the last few years. It is our fervent hope and prayer that peace shall continue to reign over all mankind. In many respects this has been a banner year for us at Tech. Among the highlights marking our progress the following may be listed: the largest freshman class in the history of the college, completion of the new infirmary, starting the construction of a new $1,500,000 science building and two new student religious organization centers, good records by our athletic teams and forensic squads, strengthening of the teaching staff, national accreditation of one department, and enrichment of the curricula in various areas. Remembering always that it is a privilege to live in a country like ours and work in harmony, let us pledge ourselves anew to take advantage of every opportunity to prepare ourselves for whatever challenge the years ahead may hold for us. Faithfully yours, R. L. ROPP, President.

Sounding a distinct tone, the clock on Keeny calls us to classes in three of the main buildings of the college. Keeny Hall, above, is the administration building. A. E. Phillips Elementary School is at the tipper right, and the engineering building, Bogard Hall, the lower right.
