DEAN M. HAYNE FOLK, JR. SCHOOL OF The three departments in the School of Agriculture and For¬ estry, namely, the Department of Agriculture, the Department of Botany, and the Department of Forestry, offer ten curricula lead¬ ing to the degree of Bachelor of Science, in addition to the two- year Pre-Veterinary Medicine Cur¬ riculum. The Department of Botany and the Department of For¬ estry are establishing the Lou¬ isiana Tech Arboretum and Botanical Gardens near the college. The tract of land serves as an outdoor labora¬ tory for the two departments. A plant ecology class at work under the direction of Mr. Stanley Ford, assistant professor. 24 -

THE SCHOOLS Wherever there is a college there are ball games, hayrides, “bull” sessions, laughter in the halls, but a college does not exist for these things. Because people are curious about the past and awed by the mys¬ teries of the test tube, because they must learn to build and plant, be¬ cause they must meditate on God and man and seek always for a higher truth, colleges must be. This section of the Lagniappe is a new one, dedicated especially to those Tech students whose pressing motivation is to know. 23

AGRICULTURE AND FORESTRY On the farm campus are a mod¬ ern creamery, greenhouses, dairy and livestock barns, silos, a live¬ stock judging pavilion, a poultry plant, a potato curing house, freezer locker plants, farm mach¬ inery buildings, a sawmill, a dry kiln, a weather station, orchards and gardens, pastures, fields, and forests. A class receives instruction in animal hus¬ bandry from Thomas Strickland. Techsters who made a field trip to a livestock show in Fort Worth. A prize winner in the annual livestock competition.
