mmmmm r In the belief that the progress and the character of an institution is measured directly by the calibre of its stu¬ dents, the staff of the 1949 Lagniappe has tried to present a composite and well-rounded picture of campus life during the 1948-49 academic year. The myriad activities of Tech, both in the classes and on the campus, have been recorded for the benefit, both now and in the future, of every student. Compiling the Lagniappe on the assumption that this year will be remembered chiefly as one of rapid progress, the staff has attempted to include a segment from every phase of campus life. Aware of the fact that ours is an obligation to bring to the students an annual as representative as possible, the editors have sought to reach out and capture the spirit of the student body — and it is to them, rather than to an indi¬ vidual, that this volume is dedicated.
