To know Annie is to lose faith in the belief that red¬ headed people are cross and ill- tempered. She had some queer ideas. One was that on top of the wardrobe was the best place to study. Chief occupa¬ tions : Looking innocent to fool teachers and putting other girls up to mischief. One of the most nec¬ essary members of the class for she has so completely fooled the faculty that she is sometimes held up as a model for the behavior of the more unruly members of the class. When she was called upon to read a paper everyone drew a sigh of relief for we know there would be no time for another paper, and so we always rested easy. 30
