The LHS Exchange Program was at its best and booming in the '87-'88 school year. We not only had one student, but two! Our first student hails from Roxas City in the Philippines and his name is . . . are you ready? Raffy Borda. He lives with his parents. Mr. and Mrs. Jose Borda when he's in the Philippines, but his time at LHS was spent with Gary Hart. Tom Bell, and Tom Jenkins families. Raffy is a Rotary Club Exchange student who is attending LHS as a senior, although he has completed his senior year in the Philippines. Our next “new'' face comes from Karlskoga. Sweden. He lives with his parents. Lennart and Ingbritt Nordstrom while in Sweden. As for the present he resides with the John Stoeckley Family at Route One. Louisiana. Claes has been active in Choir and he participated in the musical Oklahoma while attending LHS. Back home Claes is an avid skier (snow that is), but he learned something new during his first summer, water skiing. This new accomplishment stuck out most in his mind as what he most enjoyed. Claes was brought to us by the Youth for Understanding Program, which was made possible by a scholarship awarded to him by his father's company. For the coming school year, Pam Todd and Denton Mitcham will be the new LHS exchange students. Pam’s destination is still unknown, but Denton will be visiting Leon. Mexico, during his junior year. No. the students didn't get the back parking lot paved or the open lunch hour they so often requested. Nor did they EVER win the float and skit competition for Homecoming or Courtwarming. But. they did leave an indelible mark at LHS. The senior golfers have gone to State yearly, capturing their first place title in 1988 As juniors, the players shared in the 1986 State football victory. The senior track girls were dynamite at State competition this year, placing second at State with only eight girls participating. Volleyball girls celebrated their senior year with the best overall team record since the program began several years ago. On May 25. 1988, the senior class took its senior trip to Six Flags. Many of the seniors were unsure of what to expect from a day at Six Flags since the majority of them had been there several times before. But the day turned out well and most everyone had a good time. The evening before Homecoming, a group of seniors had a get together.” They decked out in camouflage and decorated the town. Many people were alarmed to awaken Friday morning to a toilet paper and shaving cream ‘‘blizzard. Prom was a memorable moment for the seniors. They worked hard last year building Prom and this year the seniors enjoyed sitting back watching the juniors create Prom 88. So. the 1988 seniors have graduated and have gone forward to leave their tracks elsewhere . . . Good luck to them all! The class I’ve come to know, I never will forget, And all the times we’ve had together I never will regret. As we go our separate ways, We promise to keep in touch. The days we’ve had together, Will always mean so much. — Stephanie Herndon 5
