We miss you, Whit. 3 Top, Chrisy Pratt. Below, Stacy Brown. Right, top: Robyn Minor, Lisa Baumann. Rennie Anderson. Angela Henry, Stacie White. Becky Battern, and Shelly Ringhausen. Below right. Laura Turley. All of these students are busy proving that it’s not all hard work at LHS. 4 Faculty and Administration Above: Dr. Rex Miller, principal of L.H.S. Left: Dr. William Wilcox, superintendent of schools. 7 Our diligent photographer, who did such an excellent job taking pictures of students, especially seniors, all year, for some reason slipped up when it came time to take faculty photographs. Is that because it was more fun to photograph his classmates? Be that as it may, many teachers are not pictured in these pages. So, if you’re looking for a favorite teacher, check in the section, “Organizations.” Most are pictured there with the groups they sponsor. All the faculty members play a vital role at school. Above is Dennis Griffith. At left is Barbara Gay. On the next page, top left is Gloria Jacobia, librarian, right is David Hunter, and bottom is Anita St. Pierre. 8 9 10 11 Personnel Our secretaries keep the school running smoothly. Pictured above are 1-r Melody DeWeese and Julie Strode. Pat Sluhan, not pictured, took over for Melody when she went on maternity leave. We couldn’t have done without them. 13 I remember what it was like to be new here. The place seemed so much bigger — longer halls, more classrooms, and hundreds of faces just staring me down. I never admitted it, but it seemed so much scarier then. The faces, all so different and all so unfamiliar. I only hoped to get a smile from one. Was that too much to ask? For a while, I wondered how I could ever fit into such a strange, super-sophisticated world, but now I wonder what I was so worried about. The confidence came, and so did the fun! What an assortment of unforgettable people I’ve met here. There were classmates I liked right from the beginning, and there were those I came to like when I got to know them better. There were teachers I really liked, and teachers I survived. There were upperclassmen, celebrities, who awed me with their many talents and styles, and lower classmen, innocents, who appeared to stand in awe of me. But most of all, there are good friends I’ve made here, and all the great times we shared. There were great times when we won together, and sad times when we lost together, but we always pulled through, and that’s what counts most. We made it through so much: starting over as freshmen, being in the middle as sophomores, pulling together for prom as juniors, and counting the days as seniors. Looking back. I’m amazed that so many crazy and wonderful things could have happened to me. How can you ever say thank you for so many great memores? It won’t be easy to say goodbye to this school and to all of my friends, but I have so much more to learn, not only about the world, but about myself, too. It’s time to get started, I think. I only know that wherever I go and whatever I do, the days I have spent here will always be a special part of my life ... a time to remember. 14 Undergraduates Ahart, Shannon Anderson, Dray Beer, Gary Bernhardt, Joe Boehlein. Pictured are Walter Boots, Alice Pritchett, Robyn Minor, and Shelly Ringhausen. Chuck Graham, Christy Hart, John Meyer, and Elise Ludwig took part in the Quiz Bowl. The snack bar is certainly a welcome innovation. It gives students a choice of food. Now, in addition to school lunches or lunches brought from home, we can enjoy sandwiches, potato chips, cupcakes, fruit pies, ice cream, and drinks. It really helps out on those days when someone forgets lunch, and doesn’t have a great deal of money to spend. Some athletic types have been seen consuming not only their school lunch, but also a large quantity of snacks. Another innovation, academic rather than food-oriented, was the Quiz Bowl, filmed for t.v. in St. Louis. Four top students, escorted by Mrs. Giltner and Mr. Klemeir competed in two games. The competitors were Chuck Graham, Christy Hart, John Meyer, and Elise Ludwig. Our team won the first game against Chester H.S., from Chester, 111. The second round against Pattonville H.S. was lost. These four students did a super job of representing our school. 29 IP. ' ; r Organizations 1-r 1st row: Tammy Maxwell. Shelly Corbin. Becky Battern. 2nd row: Lisa Baumann. Tascha Johnson. The seniors will not be able to forget Mrs. Giltner and all the knowledge she taught them. At the end of the year, the NHS had a fantastic banquet for the senior members and then, later on, had a barbacue for the whole club. The opera, “The Face on the Barroom Floor,” was well-received by high school students, as well as guests from Louisiana Primary and Middle Schools, BONCL, and Bowling Green. The musical, with a western setting, was so realistic that one little girl on the front row was frightened by a gunshot. A question and answer period followed. 87 88 Members of this year’s sophomore class decided to raise as much money as they could to finance the prom next year. The way they did it was to have a “volleyball-a-thon.” Participants played volleyball for 24 continuous hours. Pictured at the top of the page are the six members of the sophomore class who participated for the entire 24 hours. They are 1-r Robert Sapp, Robyn Dunard, Billy Sterne, Rodney Dolbeare, Paul Renner, and Ernie Moore. Sponsors for the class are Mrs. Imogene Behringer, Mr. Carl Klemeir, and Ms. Dolores Davis. 92 Right is Belen Goyache. She is a foreign exchange student from Spain, staying the school year in St. Louis. Belen visited L.H.S. and was pleased to find that students in a small town are friendlier than students in a big city. She spoke to the students in Spanish I and Spanish II, and compared life in the U.S. and life in Spain. She told the students how lucky they were not to have as much homework to take home every night as she did in Spain. This year L.H.S. did not have an AFS student. The year before. Chichi Sanchez was hosted by Christy Hart. However, two L.H.S. students were a part of the AFS program. Susan Anderson spent the summer of last year in Turkey, and Elise Ludwig spent the summer in South Africa. Both were popular speakers after they returned, and spoke positively about their experiences. Below is a sneak preview of the 1983 prom. For more prom pictures, turn to page 114. May 27. 1983 at 7:00 p.m. at the high school football stadium. The concert band, led by Mr. Dan Christy, played the processional, “Pomp and Circumstance.” Reverend Mike Haldeman gave the invocation. After Dr. William Wilcox (right), introduced the platform guests and speakers, Susan Anderson (above right) and Todd Ehinger (above left) delivered speeches which were both entertaining and inspirational. The choir sang “My Wish For You, by John Carter, and Try To Remember,” by Tom Jones. Dr. Miller presented the class, and Mr. Jack Alexander awarded the diplomas to the graduates. The concert band played the recessional, “The Royal Standard, and the graduates made their exit. This was the last time the class would be gathered together as a whole. Thus, for many, it was a sad time as well as a happy time.
