Dedication 1976 Everything Has A Value 2 Planning has value, if it teaches us to work together in a common cause. Working with our hands has value, though the product of our labor may last only a short time. Artistic creation, music, a]so have value, especially to those who create. There must be a purpose and a value for everything we do, but we must find that purpose within ourselves. 3 It was quite a year, wasn't it? Sometimes we were busy, pushed; where would we find time to do the things that were asked of us? But sometimes we managed to find a quiet moment, to sit and talk, to make a joke, to suddenly see an old friend in a new light. What will we remember? If we tried to discover what each of us has to give, and what each of us needs, we may have learned a little about each other, and something about ourselves. If we simply listen, a speaker may be just saying words to us. If our expression tells him, I'm really listening, I care about what you have to say , we hear each other better. 27 Future Homemakers Front, D. Skirvin, C. Sitton, S. Penrod, T. Pursifull, G. For a Christmas project the girls made and sold ornaments and decorations. They attended the annual area meeting in Bowling Green with a bicentennial display. They ended the year with a campout at Pine Lakes accompanied by their sponsor, Mrs. Woolfolk. 28 Speech: Front Row, Mrs. P. Giltner, D. Starkey, C. Caraway, D. Wilson, S. Walker. Second Row, B. Throughout the season, the basketball team played and practiced with the spirit, humor, dependability, and courage that has come to symbolize LHS sports. The tough 75-76 season was a maturing one for the team. In the opinion of LHS students and faculty members, the Basketball Bulldogs achieved their all-important goal. Meetings were highlighted by speakers who gave talks on their experiences in different countries. At Christmas, jolly old Papa Noel put in an appearance right out of The Night Before Christmas , which was enacted by the French I and II classes. The poem was narrated in French by Laurie Swenson, and while it is uncertain that the Spanish students understood the French, it is definite that they enjoyed the play. 41 Junior Year Was this the year you waited for? This was your year to put on the prom, and you recreated the city of Paris. Next year is your senior year. . . make it just as good, or better. 42 M. Buchanan G. Burse D. Calvin C. Chapuis B. Aside from supporting the cheerleaders at Pep Assemblies and providing the bulk of the muscles and brawn in LHS life, they make up the ranks of Lettermen, all having received an athletic letter in at least one sport. For ten of the Bulldogs shown above, commencement marked the end of their athletic careers at LHS. The others will return next year to lend power to the football, basketball, track, and golf Bulldogs. The earning of the L is all-important to LHS Athletes and these are the individuals who have achieved this degree of excellence in 1976. % Drama D. Marx, B. Asquith, T. Miller, T. Gillis, J. On-the-job training came to LHS several years ago under the direction of Miss. Lois Hastings and has been continued by Mrs. Jane Henry. On-the-job training allows business students to actually work for a local company. This is good for business, as well as providing an ideal opportunity for students. 48 Future Teacher's of America: Mrs. Priscilla Giltner, G. Turner, T. Ford, M. Powell, C. Caraway, G. Wood, M. L. This year's FTA'ers enjoyed a fruitfull year with a number of activities. Under the direction of President Artie Stoddard and the leadership of Sponsor Mrs. Priscilla Giltner, the FTA participated in many worthwhile activities and projects, as well as learning a great deal about the profession of teaching. FTA members made flash cards for the Primary School as a major project. Senior members participated in student teaching at local elementary schools and took the children from Pike County Head Start Christmas Shopping. The annual picnic was funfilled and enjoyable for the membership. Meetings were held once a month with discussions, dissentions and speeches by local educators. 49 Our Seniors 50 On their toes Inventive fa • ■ , Senior Class Officers Left, senior class officers: class president Mark Kucera, vice president Kevin Ransdell, secretary Gail Cad-wallader, and treasurer Donna Moesch Bi BB Sfl' tm IP W m .Sfi1 Raymond Adams Mark Athey Mark Baumann Renee Boston Barbara Bradshaw Cyndi Brown Gail Cadwallader Susan Campbell Charmaine Caraway David DeWeese Tracy Elgin Virginia Findley GEERY FLOYD TRINA FORD BRAD FOUNTAIN ROBERT FOWLER ROBERT FRITZ BRIAN GRIFFITH DEBBIE HAYDEN DEBBIE HEARN 53 BECKY HENRY KIM HENRY SCOTT HOBBS ROY HOPKINS Kevin Johnson Larry Joseph Todd Kennedy Mark Kucera Nancy Kuntz Bill Martin Brenda Lawson Ricky Light Rhonda Mallinckrodt Judy Marx Joe Middleton Tammy Miller 54 David Mitts Donna Moesch David Murry Rhonda Murry Russell McDaniel Paula McFarland Ernie Painter Dale Parsons 55 Russell Poyser Alan Preston Kevin Ransdell Mike Ray Lynn Shaw Don Skiles Jeff Smith Brenda Sparks Artie Stoddard Danny Stoops Jaime Stuart Daisy Starkey 56 Ill Darrell Van Hooser Sue Wagner Susan Walker Clifford Wentz Russell Wheeler Debbie Wilson Virginia Wood Drake Yaeger Curtis Tolbert Melanie Tumbaugh Gayle Turner Laurie Swenson Teachers 58 Strain To Do Their Best 59 A d m 1 n 1 s t Superintendent Randall Ted-lock and Mrs. Everett Greene r a t 1 o n Mr. William Rubemeyer Jr., Mr. John Onik, Board President Mr. Junior Clark, Mrs. Kermit Schaper, and Mr. William LaRue Faculty DONALD GILTNER Principal EDWARD BLAIS Counselor FLORENCE YAEGER Secretary CLEO RANSDELL Secretary 60 KAREN SAJBAN Vocal Music DANIEL CHRISTY Instrumental Music AARON HEMPHILL Industrial Arts GARY STEIN Mathematics LLOYD DAUGHERTY Mathematics LULA BETH GRIFFITH English GARY MCKIDDY English PRISCILLA GILTNER English 61 ARTHUR BOOTH English GLORIA JACOBI A Librarian GARRY STEWART Agriculture BETH AMBRA Special Ed. Would you believe the bell from Notre Dame is on the other end of that rope? 99 A little more paint here, a few more nails there, Mad Genius at work! and voila! Le Tour Eiffel! Every hear the old saying, Rome wasn't built in a day? Well, Paris wasn't either. It was built in a week. The result? Paris — The City of Light and Love. Wonder if Monet and Renoir started this way... I'm glad that's done. Aren't you, Charles? Charles? r I 101 102 What was it that made you smile? What brought that rapt expression to your face? What, finally, did you take away from the experience of singing together, having fun together? Aren't memories worth something? Memory 103 Jennifer Marsh, piccolo solo Kathy Tallman, clarinet Elizabeth Onik, Jennifer Marsh and Jane Law, flute trio Concert Center, clarinet quarter; Brenda Sparks, Kathy Tallman, Linda Robinson, Alika Oliver. Below, clarinet trio of Kathy Tallman, Rhonda Mallinckrodt and Linda Robinson. 105 Art Show The annual Art Show put on by Mr. Melvin Barnes' art students this year brought out an unusual number of creative projects. Mark Shade's floral arrangement was only one of the prize winners. 106 Sherry Sencenbaugh and Ralph Darnell were happy to be among the best of the show, as was Kelly Johnson. 107 The almost life-sized project of David Ray and Joe Hallows brought them well-deserved recognition, and Becky Martin and Sandra Shealor were well rewarded for their efforts. 108 Becky Gross, Drew Yaeg-er and Susan Campbell, and behind them, a wall full of talent. Art students also contributed to the decor of the Prom, by their French style paintings, a part of the Paris scene. 109 no The Class of '76, the focus of all eyes. Some walk in smiling in anticipation, some are reserved. The parents, the guests, the music, the people on the stage. . .all this is for them, the Class of '76.
