Have ducktails, long skirts and white bobby sox really come back? Don't worry, they haven't yet. They were just revived by the L. H. S. Glee Club in their production of Bye Bye Birdie. Through many weeks of hard work, long rehearsals, digging through piles of old clothes, and fighting the weather, the musical was presented. The story takes place during the 1950's when rock and roll, and the jitter bug, were the things to do. In Sweet Apple, Ohio, Conrad Birdie (Daryll Wright) was idolized by the teenagers, and criticized by the adults. After being drafted into the army, Conrad was to travel to Sweet Apple to give the chosen girl, Kim Qanet Benning) One Last Kiss.” Accompanying him were his manager, Albert Peterson (Eric Dolbeare), and his secretary Rose Alvarez (Linda Swope). 25

Little did anyone know how much trouble could be caused by that one last kiss. Ma Peterson (Tina Penrod) followed her son to Sweet Apple to make sure her son did not marry Rose. Hugo Peabody (Jon Cunningham), Kim's boyfriend, became violently mad at the thought of his girl kissing Conrad Birdie. The result was fist fighting on national television, a break-up between Rose and Albert, a family making fools of themselves on T. V., and complete chaos among the townspeople of Sweet Apple. Thanks to Rosie's scheming ingenuity she resolved the problems between Kim and Hugo, she and Albert, and sent Conrad on his way to the army. The musical was a success in all ways. Many thanks go to Mrs. Brown and her Glee Club for giving the school and the town an enjoyable play. 26
