Alamo 1973 The world is a looking glass and gives back to every man the reflection of his face. The staff wishes to extend a very special thank you to Sandidge Studios and the Louisiana Press Journal for the many photographs contributed to our yearbook. We also wish to thank Miss Barbara Cook for her continual help and encouragement. Many of the quotes used were taken from LITTLE LEADS TO LEADERSHIP, edited by Dr. Earl Reum, and from SECRETS TO THE PROFESSION OF LEADERSHIP paraphrased from THE GREATEST SALESMAN IN THE WORLD by Og Mandino. Summer fades and the cold increases. The sun rises; the sun sets. The moon is full; the moon is black. The birds arrive; the birds depart. All nature is a circle of moods and I am part of nature and so, like the tides, my moods will rise; my moods will fall. 5 It is one of nature's tricks, little understood, that each day I awaken with moods that have changed from yes -terday. Yesterday's joy will become today's sadness; yet today's sadness will grow into tomorrow's joy. 6 7 VAV 9 10 Today I will be master of my emotions. And how will I master these emotions so that each day will be productive? For unless my mood is right the day will be a failure. n 13 V r. :; v: s Today I will be master of my emotions. Henceforth I will recognize and identify the mystery of moods in all mankind, and in me. No longer will I judge a man on one meeting; no longer will I fail to call again tomorrow on him who meets me with hate today. v 18 Homecoming 1972 During Homecoming week this year every one was given ample opportunity to express their views on Homecoming through the skits, floats, and dress days. The overall opinion of Homecoming, however, was communicated best by the smiles and laughter in the halls and by the spirits that ran high. 19 Not Just A Parade This year's Homecoming parade was more than a parade. It symbolized hope and effort. The parade was the beginning of the end of a week of fervent activity combined with arguments and hard work. The parade gave the underclassmen a chance to learn to work together and to prove themselves. The seniors enjoyed one last chance to work with each other and to do something as a group. The parade summarized the week of expectation by the students and the faculty, and the passage of another homecoming for many of the graduates. 20 A Queen And Her Court This year, as each year, the football players chose one girl to reign as queen of the Homecoming game. Miss Cynthia Lee Campbell was chosen this year’s queen. Homecoming was the happiest moment of my life--I'll remember that night forever. Escorts: Kevin Tedlock, Larry Stoops, Joe McMahill, Alfred Turner, Jon Cunningham, and Brad Fountain. Queen candidates: Alberta Jameison, Cindy Campbell, and Susan Todd. Attendants: Dawn Poor, Benita Madison, and Laurie Swenson. 21 1973 Homecoming Game 22 A night long anticipated... Dampened floats... Excited queen candidates... Mounting enthusiasm... The first touchdown... Theirs... Hopeful anticipation. .. Another touchdown... Growing fear... Another touchdown... Dying enthusiasm... The final count down... Tears of defeat... The Bulldogs had lost. 23 The Glee Club Presents Bye-Bye Birdie Have ducktails, long skirts and white bobby sox really come back? Don't worry, they haven't yet. They were just revived by the L. H. S. Glee Club in their production of Bye Bye Birdie. Through many weeks of hard work, long rehearsals, digging through piles of old clothes, and fighting the weather, the musical was presented. The story takes place during the 1950's when rock and roll, and the jitter bug, were the things to do. In Sweet Apple, Ohio, Conrad Birdie (Daryll Wright) was idolized by the teenagers, and criticized by the adults. After being drafted into the army, Conrad was to travel to Sweet Apple to give the chosen girl, Kim Qanet Benning) One Last Kiss.” Accompanying him were his manager, Albert Peterson (Eric Dolbeare), and his secretary Rose Alvarez (Linda Swope). 25 Little did anyone know how much trouble could be caused by that one last kiss. Ma Peterson (Tina Penrod) followed her son to Sweet Apple to make sure her son did not marry Rose. Hugo Peabody (Jon Cunningham), Kim's boyfriend, became violently mad at the thought of his girl kissing Conrad Birdie. The result was fist fighting on national television, a break-up between Rose and Albert, a family making fools of themselves on T. V., and complete chaos among the townspeople of Sweet Apple. Thanks to Rosie's scheming ingenuity she resolved the problems between Kim and Hugo, she and Albert, and sent Conrad on his way to the army. The musical was a success in all ways. Many thanks go to Mrs. Brown and her Glee Club for giving the school and the town an enjoyable play. 26 27 A Drama Christmas Play 28 When Santa comes to town he creates a bridge between the young and the old. Children of all ages join together to make his appearance welcome. Preparations for his arrival are made weeks in advance. Children take on the attitude of sweetness and innocence in hopes that Santa will come to see them on Christmas Eve. 29 Barnwarming 30 31 School Play At L. H. S. people go around looking for fun and find it just about everywhere from the Special Ed. room to the janitor's room. On the particular evening of March 31st, a group of 9 actors and their crew exploded the gym with laughter from the audience at their one act plays. Mr. Me Kiddy and others brought to L. H. S. an evening of fresh, lively, fun and added more to remember to the spirit of the 1972-73 school year. 32 THE CAST Darrel Akers Lisa Brown David Bellringer Susan Todd Tom Holman Keith Garland Steve LaRue Morton Todd Phil Richardson 33 y NHS Banquet 34 Language Club Picnic mm m 35 Six Days of Scaffolds,Paint, and Chalk Plans began after Homecoming. Rumors flew through the air. The seniors became curious. The juniors joined together to share the responsibilities involved in the planning of the big evening. Decorations were ordered. Then, as they started arriving, tension increased. Six days before the big day , work began in earnest. The work was done, but that was not the major accomplishment. The greatest accomplishment occurred when the juniors proved themselves to be capable of sharing re-sponsiblities; and learned how to be with one another instead of against each other. 36 37 Rendezvous in Space The long anticipated night of May 12 finally arrived. By mid-afternoon, all last minute touches had been added. Banquet, scheduled at 7:00 at the Hercules Club, started off the evening. The Juniors and their guests were entertained by a boy's quartet and soloists during the meal. The scene then moved to the dance. Visitors walked through an eerie tunnel lighted by blacklights and fluorescent paints to a space world for a Rendezvous in Space, where the guests thoroughly enjoyed themselves to the sound of a rock band. When the magical hour of 12:30 arrived, the happy guests separated to go their own ways. 38 39 Class of 1973 Go forth and use The gifts of youth. But temper them With ageless truth. Numerous and varied were the projects of the 1972-73 Student Council. The numbering of textbooks, several paper drives, and the organization of a high school bowl are several of the accomplishments of this year's council. Guided by the concerned interest of Mrs. Morrow, Student Council was once again a success. A task without a vision is drudgery; a vision without a task is a dream, but a task with a vision is ecstasy. This is the challenge of Student Council. 57 Cheerleaders Cheerleaders: Julie Martin, Margaret Cook, Susan Todd, Janet Sturm, Lori Swenson, Janie Swenson, Alberta Jamieson, Donna Pacropis. FT A With an active sponsor and president, the Future Teachers in LHS became truly involved with many and diverse fields of teaching. Special education, general education, speech therapy and others were covered throughly in some of the FTA Wednesday night meetings. A trip to the youth center and deaf center at the state hospital at Fulton opened a lot of eyes to the extent of specialized fields. Student teaching was an under taking of FTA that brought the student nearer to the teaching system and a day of surprises. 72 73 74 Members: Mr. Stuhlman, Finley, Swope, Cunningham, McCallister, Mitchell, Littrell, E. After the game, from the guys: The Country Day game was a disappointment, but it will only give us greater incentive for next year. --Jon C. You have to lose to appreciate the losses. --Larry S. Summed up, the Country Day game was certainly an experience. 85 Basketball 1972-1973 LEFT TO RIGHT: Coach Lynn Stuhlman, S. Henry, R. Littrell, G. Abel, E. Davis, B. Campbell, M. Lesley, C. Davis, R. They now begin a new climb up the harder road to success and higher education. They now begin to face life on their own. They associate with many people whom they don't know, yet they find that they are prepared to cope with their new situations because of their background in high school. Throughout the high school years, a student is first and foremost taught academic studies. They are also taught to accept their responsibilities and to respect their fellow man, and to face life's situations as they arise. These ideas and concepts are carried out through all of their life. 136 GARY ABEL JANET BENNING MARK CARLTON JEFFREY DRYDEN CAROL AGLER VICKY BOULWARE DENNIS DeWEESE ROBERT ELDER JOHN ALLEN BRUCE CAMPBELL DEBORAH DILLENDER GERALD ELLIOTT JEFF ANDERSON CYNTHIA CAMPBELL ERIC DOLBEARE WANETA GAMBLE 137 BEUNA GILBERT STEPHEN HAYDEN CHARLES GOWER LEE ANNE HEMPHILL TERRY GREENE JUDY HOLMAN DANNY HARRISON JANET INCE 138 DIANA JAMES TODD KUCERA ALBERTA JAMIESON MARCIA KUNTZ DALE JORDAN DANNY La RUE DANNY KIRK NANCY LESLEY BARBARA LINDSAY EDDIE MEYER LuANN LOVE LINDA MEYERS VICKIE MANNAHAN ALICE MIDDLETON JULIE MARTIN . i CHRISTOPHER MILLER 139 Audrey McFarland DEBRA PARSONS WILLIAM McCREEVY LISA PARSONS JOE McMAHILL ELENE PATRICK ALAN OLIVER LORETTA PEABODY FREDRICK MILLER TERRY MITCHELL LINDA MINOR RUTH MORGAN LYNN MINOR DEBRA McCORMICK RICHARD MINOR GRAICORY McELFRESH 140 ROGER PEECHER PAULA PHILLIPS CYNTHIA POYSER GEORGE PRESTON GREGORY REED ALBERT RENDLEN ROBERT RENNER MIKE REYNOLDS ANTHONY STARK LINDA SWOPE CHARLES STEWART SUSAN TODD LAWRENCE STOOPS JERRY TRAVIS JAY STUMBAUCH ALFRED TURNER MILTON ROBERTS BRAD SHARPE GARY ROBERTSON SALLY SIDWELL CAROLYN RULE SAMUEL SILVEY JOYCE SHADE VIRGINIA SLADEK 142 SUSAN WAGNER ALAN WALKER DEBRA WALKER ROBERT WALLACE CYNTHIA WENTZ MARK WILLIAMS LISA WOOD DARYL WRIGHT 143 Member Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation Bank of Louisiana LOUISIANA FQLAND PWVJgr CARPtTK UNOCtUM HomF 147 Congratulations to the Class of 1973 STARK BROTHERS NURSERIES AND ORCHARDS THE 1972-73 ALAMO STAFF Would LikeTo Express Thanks To: Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Longergan Mr. and Mrs. Sam Paul Mr. and Mrs. Davis Benning Mr. and Mrs. Chester Williams Mr. and Mrs. Ted Martin Mr. and Mrs. J. Because it was grassy and wanting wear; Though as for that the passing there Had worn them really about the same, And both that morning equally lay In leaves no step had trodden black. Oh, I kept the first for another day! Yet knowing how way leads on to way I doubted if I should ever come back. I shall be telling this with a sigh Somewhere ages and ages hence: Two roads diverged in a wood, and I--I took the one less traveled by. And that has made all the difference.
