Text from Pages 1 - 140 of the 1970 volume:

2 5 7 9 15 18 19 HOMECOMING Memories . . . Pressed between the pages of my mind, Sweetened through the ages just like wine, Of holding hands and red bouquets And twilights trimmed in purple haze And smiling eyes and laughing days with you. huh] HUH Class attendants were chosen this year, as they are each year, and this year's beauties were: Julie Martin, Freshman; Lou Ann Jack-son, Sophomore; and Donna Kirk, Junior. 22 24 27 HOOTENANNY Little Bunny Foo-Foo started the whole thing. It must have been his fault that the evening turned out to be a riot. After all, who but a pitiful hare-turned -goon could have set the mood of hilarity that lasted through the piggy-back race, the penny pushing (with nose only!), and the three-legged sack races? It carried through to twister games, ping-pong, balancing, hopefully, on one foot on a coffee can while lighting a candle on the floor, building big squirming piles called pyramids, roll-a-bod, and general wandering around. Leave it to a rabbit to generate hoppiness! m • 1970 SCIENCE AND ARTS FAIR Charles Ludwig received first place honors in the 1970 Science Fair. He also was named as first place winner in the Physics division. Eric Dolbeare was cited as second overall and first in the General Science Division. Third place overall winner was Craig Hemp hill, who took first place in the Biology division. t 31 THE AFTERNOON PLAYHOUSE VARIETY SHOW Each year the Senior Class sponsors a variety show to expose the townspeople to the talent hidden within the walls of L.H.S. This year's show proved to be an interesting and often surprising evening with acts ranging from country-western singing to skits from Mad Magazine. Leadership makes strange demands on people. You can be buffeted, kicked, ostracized and criticized. You find it not only impossible to please all of the people all of the time, you find it extremely difficult to even please some of the people some of the time. But somehow, in the final wrap-up, it is a lonely empty feeling to leave your office. 46 Mrs. Morrow, Jim Waddell, Bill Travis, Sally Campbell, Greg Dolbeare, Judy Robles, Pam Sisson, Edwin Henry, Debbie Poor, Larry Stoops, Julie Martin, Gary Abel, Kevin Willis, Craig Hemphill, Pat Reed, Cindy Cunningham, John Hallows, Martha Denney. When I have to pack my suitcase again, there will be one thing that I can't put together with my other belongings. I will forever carry it in my heart and those are the everlasting friendships, formed this wonderful year. I would like to thank all the people who have been so nice and helped me with every step I took during my stay here; and whose strength and love will keep the happiness and prosperity in my heart. Weaver, Insurance REFLECTIONS The antique people are down in the dungeons run by machines and afraid of the tax their heads in the grave and their hands in their eyes hauling their heads around circular tracks pretending forever their masquerade towers are not really riddled with widening cracks and I wave goodbye to iron and smile hello to the air. o the new children dance i am young all round the balloons i will live swaying by chance i am strong to the breeze from the moon i can give painting the sky you the strange with the colors of sun seed of day freely they fly feel the change as all become one know the way Tim Buckley Bridge Over Troubled Waters When you're weary, feeling small, When tears are in your eyes, I will dry them all I'm on your side. When times get rough And friends just can't be found, Like a bridge over troubled water I will lay me down. When you're down and out, When you're on the street, When evening falls so hard I will comfort you. I'll take your part. When darkness comes And pain is all around, Like a bridge over troubled water I will lay me down. Like a bridge over troubled water I will lay me down. Sail on silver girl, Sail on by. Your time has come to shine. All your dreams are on their way. See how they shine. If you need a friend I'm sailing right behind. Like a bridge over troubled water I will ease your mind. Like a bridge over troubled water I will ease your mind. Paul Simon We have lived, not only at school, but at home and away with friends and family. We, on the 1970 Alamo Staff, have tTied to recreate how it feels to enter a new world as a freshman; discover new people and new places in a comforting familiar surrounding as a sophomore; experience the security of rank and the insecurity of age as a junior and live in a sad-happy world of being oh-so-big but soon to be on-so-little as a senior. These evoke different emotions in different people. A sunset on the river, a snowstorm, or even a crumpled sheet of notebook paper evokes 400 different emotions. This is our comment on the year, now it is your turn. We don't ask you to agree with our interpretation, simply view the year with us . . .
