Henry Bailey, Mr. Robert Brown. J. Henry Bailey, Superintendent Mrs. Bea Goodin, Secretary MR. TA YLOR How do you say good-bye to someone you have come to know, appreciate, and most of all, like? It isn’t easy. A tight little smile and a handshake ... maybe an inscription on a plaque or a picture in a book. It doesn’t fit; the appreciation must be more thoughtful. Eighteen years is a long time, and giving eight to one locale is asking for a Godsend. Mr. Taylor did it, however— unceasingly and with an unusual interest in the student and their endeavors. Words cannot express and time cannot tell of the impression made by a man on so many for so long. Mr. Taylor seemed like part of the environment. It is almost tragic to have him go, and expecially, to have to say goodbye. 17 18 Mrs. Priscilla Giltner, English IV, Speech, Dramatics FACULTY LANGUAGE ARTS Mr. Hugh Kyle, English II, Publications i Mrs. Lula Beth Griffith, English I Mrs. Jane Henry, English III, Typing 19 ■ Miss Lois Hastings, Commercial Arts Mr. David Whiteis, World History Mrs. Willene Smith, Librarian Mrs. Dixie Reynolds, Home Economics PRACTICAL ARTS Mrs. Ellen Morrow, Algebra, Geometry Mr. David Hunter, Chemistry, Science SCIENCE AND MA TH Mr. Ed Moravec, Physics, Algebra 1 Mr. Mike Griffith, Biology 21 COACHING STAFF Mr. Lynn Stuhlman, Basketball, Driver’s Education Mr. Charles Linn, Physical Education, Football Mr. William Cunningham, Civics, Track, Athletic Director VO. GRADUATES Joy and tears, hopes and fears, time and years together. But now is time for the future—without leaning, without using each other. The future has the answer to all the glory and beauty of your dreams. And, although the future is of primary concern at the moment, never forget the past. Remember the good times and the bad, for they have helped mold you into what you are. Cherish your memories and rely on them for faith in yourself and in the world. Time is but a fleeting thing and it will never be trapped; so make the most of what you have, what you are, and especially what you did together. That can never be forsaken or taken from you. 26 Allan Abel Larry Adkison Mike Anderson Fritz Aschbach Dick Asquith Ricky Blackwell Gary Branham Audrey Cadigan Mary Lou Clark Dan Cohea Doris Cohea Helen Cook 27 David Cordes Paul Couch Jewel Davis Maijorie Denney Greg Dillender Patty Dutton Tim Elder Katherine Elliot Wanda Jo Elliot 28 Bob Ellis Penny Griego Steve Griffith Janet Herche Bill Hoaglin Dick Holland Leslie Holtsman Don Ince Dale Jones George Keefe Mike King Warren King David Krienke Joyce Lamberson Ronnie Lawrence 29 Rick Lawrence Charles Lesley Janice Love Dick Lucas Dan Meadows Leroy Mitchell Mike Mitchell Gary Morris Pat Naxera 30 Kathy Pederson Lisa Ray Jerry Reed Linda Reynolds George Rives Charlene Robbins Lonnie Robbins Sandra Rosenburg Dexter Schraer Hazel Shade Elmo Shaw Linda Shaw Rick Silvey Betty Smith Eddie Smith 31 Judy Smith Thelina Spencer Larry Strode Nancy Sturm Ann Thomas Shirley Tucker Gary Wagner Barbara Whal David Woods 32 J.E. The Junior year is the time when students must think of facing an adult world. They have now advanced to the stage of indecision and are part of the group called upperclassmen. Upperclassman is a unique word. When spoken it means very little, but one must be ready for the challenge. It is followed by the tradition of merit, responsiblity and freedom. If caught unprepared, however, it can be an awesome awakening. 34 JUNIORS Billie Sue Chenoweth Gary Cox Becky Crow Cindy Cunningham Addie Davis Martha Denney Tina Dewey Tom Elkin Bob Farmer Kathleen Fernald Elaine Ficken Margaret Gierke Fred Gower Gay Lynn Griffith Randy Griffith Norma Hall John Hallows James Harrison Diane Heffner Les Henderson Mary Anne Himes Gary Holland Danny Holman Becky Jamieson Sandra Jefferies Charles Keefe Pauline Kingery Brenda Kleisncr Roger Klemme Lois Lamberson Delmer LaPlant Glenna Lee Irma Lee Walter Logan Ray Madison Pam McDannold Mary Meyer Peggy Miller John Minor Lynn Morton Ira Oliver Susan Owens Sandra Pearl Sharon Pearl Chuck Peterson Kenny Phillips Mike Pratt Roger Preston 35 David Renner Arnold Richardson Vickie Robertson Rick Rollins Eileen Rutledge Deborah Shipley Janice Shrum Joe Sloan Wanda Smith Pat Smoker Tom Tapley Raymond Taylor Barry Trost David Wagner Etta Walker Denice Ward Gaylord White Sandra White Stan White Mike Williams Rick Willis Junior Wommack Danny Wood Virginia Woodson 36 Kent Adams Joyce Akers Betsy Ambra Paulette Asbridge Joe Ray Asquith Sterling Banks Lynn Beadle Charles Blackmore Pam Branstetter Gary Brazier Greg Dolbeare, President; Joe Martin, Vice-President; Sally Campbell, Secretary; Tom Ward, Treasurer. SOPHOMORES When the innocence has worn off, the sophomore enters the now familiar halls with a sigh of boredom. But with his new knowledge comes the realization that he is not old enough yet to accept, or want, the responsibilities of the upperclassman. And so, for the first time, he works hard to pull together the class as one in preparation for the acceptance of the responsibilities. FRESHMEN Bubbling with new found excitement, enthusiasm, and adventure, one more class of freshmen has found in LHS a new home. And as time passes, the grandeur of high school will give way and affairs of more importance such as friendship, knowledge, and maturity will overshadow that first moment of apprehension. In their remaining years of high school they will develop into the person that they are to be and make the decisions that will help rule the rest of their lives. Basically a yearbook is three things: a pictorial record of the school year, a memory book, and a public relations device. Something as valuable as this should not and cannot be left completely to the whims of fate. It takes the adviser, editor, and key staff members working steadily night after night preparing layout mats, measuring copy, determining photographic quality, and other related aspects of mechanics to produce a top-notch yearbook. Is it worth all the time, rush, and frustration? Herein lies the answer. Mr. Barnes, D. Schraer, M. Denney, B. Ambra, B. Farmer, J. Crawford, J. Denny, D. Schraer, N. Sturm, P. Parker, R. Black-well, W. King, M. Denny, A. Cadigan, P. Sisson, S. Naxera, P. Hirst, T. Alexander, J. Branstetter, E. Sladek, M. Haddock, E. Rutledge. 45 Ann Thomas, A.F.S.; Martha Denney, Sec.-Treas.; Allan Abel, Vice-Pres.; Pat Naxera, Pres.; Fritz Aschbach, A.F.S.; Mrs. Morrow, Sponsor; Representatives: C. Hemphill, C. Woodward, B. Many students do not realize the many advantages they would be without if it were not for the council. This year there was work to be done in the summer. By taking charge of the Lion’s Club Train and participating in Youth Day they made their contribution to Louisiana’s Sesquicentennial. Throughout the year events such as Homecoming and assemblies can be traced to the work of the Council and its members. They were responsible for Buzz Books, the paper machine, book shelves in the hall, Christmas decorations, Viet Namese Holiday Friendship Kits, a teacher appreciation breakfast and the presentation of a portable television to Mr. Taylor. The Council is also very active in the affairs of the American Field Service. It takes time and effort to raise the money needed to support a foreign student for a year. Projects to further this cause included a Senior-Faculty basketball game, A.F.S. Christmas Cards and a movie. If it were not for their work we would not have the pleasure of Fritz’s company. Mrs. Morrow each year sponsors a new and exciting group. And with every succeeding year it becomes increasingly difficult for the incoming Council to equal the last. Dramatics gives those interested in the theater a chance to express themselves. The classroom is the stage for drama students throughout most of the year, but they do venture into the outside world when given the chance. Performing to an audience gives the students an opportunity to perfect their art and those present enjoy a well-prepared and produced program. 50 National Honor Society represents the highest scholastic achievement in our high school. Merit of this type should not go unrecognized. However, the club does not rest on its laurels. The members are very active in school affairs and by sponsoring the spirit chain at Homecoming and co-sponsoring the coat check the society proves it is more than just honorary. Adkison J Clark LANGUAGE CLUB From its initial existence four years ago, the Language Club has been active in providing an insight into foreign lands for its many members. This year there has been an avid interest in the sampling of foreign foods and similar projects. The club also sponsored the “Spring Dance” which provided a festive occasion at the onset of the new season. 52 R. Lawrence, E. Shaw, R. Griffith,T. Elder, D. Weaver, S. Shaw,G. Norvell, A. FUTURE FARMERS OF AMERICA The F.F.A., an organization for people inclined to an agricultural career, has many functions in and out of school curriculum. Early in the year the “Barnwarming” dance is held for the enjoyment of all and constitutes a complete release from the ordinary formal type dances. A banquet is also held honoring those members who have attained special achievements during the year. 53 To bring the news to the students is the intent and purpose of the HIGHLIGHTS STAFF. This year’s staff did exactly that. They brought forth timely and controversial articles on subjects pertaining to school and the antics of her students. Mr. Kyle, L. Ray, A. Cadigan, P. Naxera, B. Wahl, J. Herche, M. Clark, P. Griego, H. Cook, R. Lawrence, W. King, J. Crawford. 54 C. Robbins, B. Wahl, B. Smith, N. Campbell, Mrs. Smith, J. Young, B. Kleisner, W. Smith, S. Owens. H. Shade, M. Denney, L. Adkison, W. Logan, R. Taylor, J. Waddell, G. Renner. STUDENT LIBRARIANS The student librarians are a much needed addition to the school’s extraordinary library facilities. Under the direction of Mrs. Smith the librarians learn the basics of library science and in turn relieve Mrs. Smith of the many menial duties which accompany a library of this size. 55 “L” CLUB Coach Linn, D. Meadows, A. Abel, L. Holtsman, M. Haddock, G. Holland, M. King, Coach Stuhlman, A. Richardson, R. Lawrence, B. Ellis, D. Asquith, W. Logan, G. Dolbeare, J. Runyan, B. Farmer, D. Jones, J. Clark. B. Trost. E. Smith, T. Elder, D. Schraer, M. Anderson, L. Anderson. The “L” Club is an organization that is comprised more of honor than of service to the community. However, the club still manages to find time to sponsor the coat check at basketball games on a part time basis and also co-sponsor the Senior-Faculty Game. Wanting to present the club members to the student body, the initiation of the new members was climaxed by an assembly for the club. The new and old members were introduced and recognized. Throughout the day and the assembly the initiates were required to do meaningful tasks that proved they were big enough men to take it. Theirs was a character building experience. 56 “That was the day my friend, we thought it would never end!” LCLUB INITIATES 57 S. Banks, C. Hempill, T. Ward, K. Willis, G. FUTURE TEACHERS OF AMERICA For students who wish to pursue teaching as a career, the F.T.A. is not only beneficial, but understandably practical. The club does all it can to interest students in the field of teaching. Mr. Griffith arranged for the members to visit Litzsinger School for Handicapped Children where different teaching processes were visualized. Through the year there was an opportunity to practice-teach for a day. The F.T.A. does a marvelous job of guiding students toward a most rewarding occupation. Mrs. Reynolds, J. Young, A. Davis, J. FUTURE HOMEMAKERS OF AMERICA Commencing with their participation in the Vietnamese kits and continuing through the year the F.H.A. was instrumental in training young ladies for the home. Under the direction of Mrs. Reynolds the club was more active in the school this year than in the past. They gave a worthy contribution. 59 To promote and inspire interest in the study of science is the plan of the F.S.A. This year the club has accomplished this by inviting stimulating guest speakers to its meetings. Mr. Hunter and the officers also found time to plan a trip to St. Louis and a picnic for the members. Through the efforts of the science department, many students were drawn to the affair. Competition brings out the best in each of us, and the fair provided an exciting chance to test scientific skill. 61 62 touiSTAnfl OtfllDOGS VARSITY SQUAD: C. Cunningham, J. Davis, T. Dewey, H. The effect was befitting of his talent and the member’s faithful participation. The marching band was not only more impressive in size, but the sound and show were superior to anything in the past. When the concert season began it was apparent that the public was in for an enjoyable season. Mr. Christy also instigated a pep band which performed at nearly every home basketball game. To the usual half time calm was added a bit of relaxation. As always the band faired well in state competition. The band received a state rating I and none of the ensembles or soloists were given less than II’s. A tribute not only to the band and Mr. Christy, but to the school. Mrs. Brown is a master at the art of obtaining maximum effort from each of her pupils. This year the small ensembles were superb as has been the recent custom, and for the first time in four years an ensemble received a State Rating I. The girls’ sextet was this years proud recipient of the highest award possible. There was also an abundance of fine work done by the large groups. Both the mixed chorus and the girls’ glee club received State Rating I, while the boys’ glee club was awarded all. Followers of the music department were treated to a musical experience new to Louisiana during the spring of the year. The musical experience, the “Pop Concert”, was enjoyed by all. 73 BIG MADRIGAL: N. Sturm, S. Hormanski, G. Cox, K. Reid, P. Jenkins, B. Jordan, J. Ringhausen, D. Poor, L. Jackson, S. Swenson, R. From the first game when the future Conference Champs were played to a near standstill for almost the entire game, there was a feeling of things to come. After molding and shaping the team for a year Coach Linn achieved his own style of play. The result was a vastly improved record of 5A. However, even the record was not indicitive of the change that took place with the fans and especially the players. This year there was a touch of knowledge, a touch of cockiness, and a note of inspiration. It was a good football year at L.H.S. and the future is even more promising. FOOTBALL LETTERMEIS A. Abel L. Victory was that cry that drove the Bulldogs forward. Twenty-six times the Bulldogs toppled opponents. It was Louisiana’s year. That goal was not realized. Under the most trying conditions, the Bulldogs were defeated. It culminated orfb night in late February . . . 88 Charlie Linn, assistant coach; G. Rerris, J. Martin, S. Banks. C. Hemphill, T. The Bulldogs were inspired by the occasion, but fate decreed that it was not to be a night of triumph for the home team. Nevertheless, the desire and drive was there. Victory was the one important item, but there is consolation in defeat when a team has done its best. 103 LISA RAY AUDREY CADIGAN A QUEEN AND HER COURT “Variety is the spice of life” and Homecoming ’68 at Louisiana High School was well seasoned and for the first time suspense was added to the annual potpourri of events. Activities of Homecoming Week began bright and early Monday morning with class competition in hall decorating-a project that helped boost spirit all week. The next order of business was the electing of attendents in grades 9-11. Three queen candidates were then chosen from the Senior Class. These three girls were then voted upon by secret ballot at a special meeting of the football team. Their decision was kept until half-time of the Homecoming Game. The big day came and in spite of frantic last minute additions, an air of quiet anticipation prevailed until the queen and her court were finally assembled that evening. 104 PAT NAXERA; Queen LISA RAY; Senior Candidate AUDREY CADIGAN; Senior Candidate 106 Junior Attendent 107 It was a night full of fun and excitement ; a chance to behave in a way that was unusual and uniquely different. Every imaginable bit of attire was commonplace and for one evening there was, for many young people, not a worry in the world. 108 SADIE HAWKINS 110 After the Bobcats of Bowling Green had fallen victim to the Bulldogs of Louisiana for the second time, it was a perfect night for a Sock-Hop. To make the evening even more of a success the youth of the rival township were cordially asked to attend the dance. It provided an excellent opportunity for gaiety and friendship. SOCK HOP To provide entertainment and to enable the Senior Class to take a trip; the class of 1969 put on a variety show. By using the talent available in the high school and the surrounding area, the class was able to present an unusual and interesting show. VARIETY SHOW ART FAIR Many aesthetic pieces of work done by Art ! and Art II students were on display during the two day art fair. The fair under the direction of Mr. Barnes, was a culmination of many and varied experiences involving the use of various media. Top honors for the best of the fair” went to Charles Keefe for a crayon etching, 3rd place: Eddie Barnum for a block print, 2nd place; and 1st place went to Bonnie Niffen for an abstraction in chalk. 112 SPRING DANCE The advent of spring brought about a very special occasion. To many the “Spring Dance” represented time and effort all directed to making an enjoyable evening possible for those who attended. A dance of this nature could well become an annual affair. 113 BANQUET AND PROM 114 Year after year the Junior-Senior Banquet and Prom is one of the school’s most exciting events. With a controlled atmosphere of knights and ladies the class of ’70 provided the class of ’69 with a memorable evening. 115 117 J. Smith. H. Cook. D. tohea. A. Cadigan. M. Clark. J. Herche, J.
