History The class of 1961 entered Louisiana High School as freshmen under the leadership of President, Steve Foland: Vice President, Louise Hobkirk; Secretary-Treasurer, RayKrigbaum. They were represented on the Student Council that year by Kathleen Maddern and Helen Schaffer. The Freshman attendants to the Homecoming Queen were Kathleen Maddern, escorted by Jerry Van Strien; and Jo Ann Ulry. escorted by Cary Rohr. The F.F.A. Barnwarming attendant was Helen Schaffer, escorted by Morris Patrick. Sports were well represented by the freshmen, eight boys were out for football, eight for basketball, and seven for track. Jerry Van Strien was the only freshman to letter and was initiated into the ML” club. Sis Taliaferro was the Freshman cheerleader. Sis Taliaferro was the Alamo reporter and Judy Glenn was the Highlights staff member. Freshman sponsors were: Mrs. Ray Geeson, Miss Eva Hosman, Mr. George Smith, and Coach Bill Cunningham. The Sophomore officers were: President, Steve Foland; Vice President, Bill Davidson; Secretary-Treasurer, Sandra Rule. Student Council representatives were Helen Schaffer and Ray Krigbaum. Homecoming Attendants were Margaret Bransetter, escorted by Don Lewis, and Kathy Woods, escorted by Steve Foland. Charlotte Wood was the Barnwarming attendant, escorted by R. J. Allensworth. Sophomore attendant to the Valentine King was Steve Foland. The class was represented in sports by four boys lettering in football, three in basketball, and six in track. Sis Taliaferro lettered in girls’ basketball, and was also the Sophomore cheerleader. There were four representatives on the Highlights Staff and Judy Glenn was the Alamo reporter. Sandra Rule was voted the Outstanding Sophomore. Judy Glenn was selected for All-State Band and went on the U.N. Pilgrimage. Ray Krigbaum was the Outstanding Band Student of the year. The class sponsors remained the same with the exception of Mrs. Geeson who did not teach that year. Junior class officers were: Cecil Logan, President; Sandra Rule, Vice President; Sis Taliaferro, Secretary-Treasurer. The Student Council members were Forrest Triplett and Judy Glenn. Homecoming attendants were Kathleen Maddern, escorted by Steve Foland; and Louise Hobkirk, escorted by Don Lewis. Sandra Rule was Barnwarming Queen, and the Junior attendant was Rita Sparks, escorted by Herbert Griffith. Football lettermen were twelve in number; Basketball, six; and track, ten. Don Lewis made All-Conference Second Football Team and Gerald Beer made All-Conference Second Basketball Team. Sissy Taliaferro and Charlotte Wood were Junior cheerleaders. Junior girls lettering in basketball were Sissy Taliaferro and Margaret Branstetter.
