emor History The Class of 1958 f1rst entered the doors of L H S as reshmen 1n the year of 1954 There were s1xty two members 1n 1954 and the graduat1ng class was forty n1ne 1n number To start the1r f1rst year the cla s s e lected as off1cers Allan W1ndm1ller, Pres1dent Delores Skelton V1ce Pres1dent Wanda Baker Secretary Treasurer Martha Sue Zook Student Counc11 Representat1ve The two attendants to the 1954 Home com1ng Que en were Barbara Chester and Phyll1s Sue Verd1er The attendant to the Barnwarm1ng Queen was Delores Skelton The atte ndant to the Valent1ne K1ng was Bruce Penn Martha Sue Zook was not only elected Freshman cheerleader, but she rece1ved th1s honor all four years Of course, the c la s s had many members part1c1pat1ng 1n F H A F F A Glee Club Band and sports Ned Glenn was the f1rst of the class to letter 1n a sport, wh1ch was track The most memorable event the f1rst year was the Amateur Show, wh1ch was one of the b1ggest s uc c e s s e s 1n years In add1t1on the C la s s sponsored a Hawanan Dance wh1ch also proved to be a success F1fty mne Sophomores assembled to start another outstand1ng year Off1cers chosen for th1s Sophomore year were Edward Bass, Pres1dent B111 Wortman V1ce Pres1dent Phylhs Sue Verd1er, Secretary Treasurer Th1s year the attendants at the Homecorrung were Mar1lyn Vetter andl Delores Skelton Barnwarm1ng attendant was Donna Lew1s B111 Kn1ght was chosen as Valent1ne attendant Ned Glenn was chosen as the Outstand1ng Sophomore, as 1ndeed he was Myra Lee Rottman was elected V1ce Pres1dent :Sf the F T A ALAMO reporter wa s Donna Lew1s and HIGHLIGHTS reporter was Phyll1s Sue Verd1er Members of the class were becommg more mterested 1n sports and organ1zat1ons, and the Sophomore membersh1p 1n these 1ncreased The Sophomore sponsored C1nderella Dance was one of the favor1te dances of the year And s o ended another happy year half of our h1gh school days were now over T o begm as upperclassmen the Class elected as offlcers Jlmmy Woo d Pres1dent Phyl11s Sue Verd1er, VICE Pres1dent, Jo Ann Pr1ce Secretary Treasurer Mar1lyn Vetter, Student Counc1lRepresentat1ve Martha Sue Zook was elected Student Counc11 V1ce Pres1dent and she d1d a f1ne job Wanda Baker and Carol Lee Allensworth s e rve d as attendants when Homecom1ng t1me r o ll e d a r o un d Kathleen Ho111day was the lovely Barnwarm1ng Queen and B a r b a r a F a r r a r was her Jun1or attendant Bruce Penn was attendant to the Kmg of Hearts Jo Ann Pr1ce was elected to be subst1tute for the cheerleaders As 1S customary, the .Tumors pubhshed the HIGHLIGHTS Phylhs Sue Verd1er was Edltor 1n Ch1ef and Donna Lew1s was Asslstant Ed1tor Myra Lee Rottman was HIGHLIGHTS reporter and was also elected to be the assrstant edmtor of the ALAMO wh1le Edward Bass was the ALAMO reporter for the Juruors . . , . : . . . s , . - . 3 , I 1 ' l . Donna Lewls was selected to attend Glrls' State Carol Lee Allensworth was elected head majorette of the band and d1d a f1ne hlgh stepplng job The Class also boasted two Pep Squad off1cers Mar1lyn Vetter was Pres1dent, and Betty Patton was V1ce Pres1dent There were two outstandlng events th1S year the Jun1or Semor Prom and Banquet w1th the theme of South Sea Islands and the Junlor Play, e Daffy D1lls The Jumor year e nded w1th a whoop and a holler for the class was anx1ous to begm therr f1nal lap the SENIOR year And f1nally after all those years of wa1t1ng the bxg day cune THIS was the year so looked forward to T o gu1de the class through th1s all 1mportant year, the follow1ng off1cers were elected Pres1dent, Allan W1ndrn1ller V1ce Pres1dent, Ned Glenn S e c r e t a r y Wanda Baker Treasurer, Donna Lew1s, Student Counc1l Representat1ve Betty Patton Two mo r e able off1cers were elected to gu1de the school through the dent, and Mar1ly'n Vetter, Student Counc1l Secretary Treasurer Carol Lee Allensworth and Martha Sue Zook were chosen a s cheer leaders to boost the school m sports Wanda Baker w a s chosen by the student body as Homecommg Queen She was crowned by Blll Kn1ght Co Capta1n of the football team Allan W1ndrn1ller was also a Co Capta1n The Queen's attendants from the Semor class were Betty Patton and Myra Lee Rottman Myra Lee Rottman was c ho s e n a s Barnwarnrnng Queen, and Betty Patton was Semor attendant Myra Le e was crowned by Chas Rule Pres1dent of the F F A , and presentkd wlth a Sweetheart Jacket B111 Kmght wa s crowned Va1ent1ne Kmg, and James Cable was the Seruor attendant to H1s Majesty Karen Cafer escorted B1ll, and was crowned Queen of Hearts We were real proud of the two Semors who rece1ved the Sportsrnanslnp Awards Carol Lee Allensworth and Earl Salmons Carol Lee was the f1rst g1rl to rece1ve th1s award The boys who rece1ved le tt e r s 1n football were B111 Kmght, Allan W1ndm1ller, Ned Glenn, James Cable, Larry Br1nker, Earl Salmons, Clark Po1nter, and Roy Woods The most memorable occas1on of th1 s year perhaps even of all four years, was the Se H10 r T r1p Mrs Enghsh and Mr Danrlly Semor sponsors, accompan1ed th1rty four Semors on a tour of the South It was w1th both cheers and tears that the C la s s o f 1 9 5 8 marched proudly up the a1sle, out the doors of L H S , and 1nto a new hfe a new future for everyone .
