emor History In 1953 fxfty one members of a class wmth a wonderful future walked through the doors of L H S and galned the t1tle of green Freshmen ' To get the ball roll1ng our class met wlth their sponsors and elected Note Mltchell Presxdent Joyce Powell Vrce Presrdent Jumor C lar k Secretary Treasurer and Ga1l Gast Freshman representatwe to the Student Councrl Mary Lee Menefee escorted by Jumor Clark and Gall Gast escorted by Rockne Calhoun served as attendants to the Home commg Queen JoAnn B1ll1ngs escorted by Rockne Calhoun pard homage to the Barnwarmxng Queen Note Mrtchell was attendant to the Kxng of Hearts Frances Verd1er was chosen V1ce Presldent of the Pep Squad For Freshmen our class d1d all rrght for themselves 1n the sports department Rockne Calhoun recelved as ' L 1n football represented the class rn the L Club Several of our boys made the football team and basketball team The glrls also made a showxng m basketball The Freshmen mn the muslc department showed prom1se Lmda Hughlett and Kathy Yates were tw1rlers In l954 forty four of the frfty one Freshmen returned to make up an outstandxng Sophomore Class Wxsely chosen as offrcers for the class were Rockne Calhoun Pres1dent Jumor Clark Vxce Prendent Ga1l Gast Secretary Treasurer and Joyce Powell Student Councxl Representatwe As 1n the prevlous year our class was well represented 1n the varlous school act1vit1es Mary Hampton escorted by Rockne Calhoun and Joyce Powell Queen Kathy Sandell e s c o r t e d by B1ll Hallxburton was the Sophomore Barnwarmmg attendant Jerry Johnson was attendant to the F H A Klng of Hearts Agaln we were well represented 1n s p o rt s Our boys made good s h ow 1n g s on the fo o tb a ll basketball and track teams respectwely Four more of our boys Chxck Branstetter Leroy Storey Jun1or Clark and John Shade joxned the L Club Rockne Calhoun served as Co Captam of the football team We had qulte a few of our members representing us U1 thg muslc department Sarah Branstetter was the class representatwe on the chee r leadmg squad Rockne Calhoun was chosen as the Outstandlng Sophomore by the Student Body Thls year was a successful and enyoyable one for all of the members of the class Stlll dwmdllng ln srze we began our Jun1or year at L H S by electlng offtcers who could wisely steer us thru an xrnportant year They were Joyce Powell Presldent Jerry Johnson Vzce Presz dent Mary Hampton Secretary Karen Anderson Treasurer and Note Mxtchell Student Councxl Representatwe Naturally we were agam well represented ln extra currlcular act1vxt1es and held several offlces Rockne Calhoun was elected V1ce Presxdent of the Student Body Gazl Gast escorted b y Rockne Calhoun and Kathy S a n d e ll escorted by Jumor Clark were the Jumor Homecomlng attendants Deanna H 1le s was the Barnwarmmg Queen and Lmda Hughlett escorted by John M1ller was her Jumor attendant Jumor Clark paxd homage to the Kmg of Hearts at the Valentine Dance 1 .
