Williamson, Bill Rottman, Charles Lewellen, Marion Parker, Bill Haley, Joy Whitener. These six men comprise the very able school board which began the school year 1955-1956. The fields of horticulture, electronics, management, medicine, lumber, insurance, and teaching are represented by this board. This group might well be called the control tower for the smooth operation of the s c h o o l s y s t e m in Louisiana. Its job is not an easy one, and the sole compensation is the knowledge that t h e po 5 t e r it y o f America will be fully prepared for the jobs to be done. Mr. Haley chose not to run for re-election this spring, and Mr. Burdell Millner, manager of the Louisiana Kroger Store, succeeded him on the Board. Baseball season just seems to come at the wrong 'time of year at L.H.S. Diring its second year as a varsity sport at L,ll,S,, baseball had a pretty rozigh time of it, sg eezed in, as it were, jzst after track season, and during the hectic last weeks of school. The team was just getting warmed ig at the end of its short, three-ganie seascm. The first gxinte, with Frankford. was a good garne in any language. The score was tied at the end of the seventh inning and a n extra two in ning s were plaved. During that tinie, however, the Frankford team p lled far ahead of the Etonic- tearn to win the qanie, The seeondyjfime, at Barry, was another heartiireaker for the B illdogs. The final garne, with Ix1cCooey,was the Best genie of the season. hut the score was still not in favor of the B .lldog1s. The McCooev team hroke a tie in the last innings to sto.: the game at 5-Z. Altlio 'gh baseball is jgst getting started at L,l'l,S,, it has all the earniarlvs of heconiinfj one ofthe iiiost pop .lar varsitv sports.
