S To gu1de such a large class successfully throuoh thexr Freshman year, they elected as Presldent, .hm Mosley Vrce Presldent, Larry Bono , Secretary, Patty Tarrants, Treasurer Alo ma Neumann and Student Counc1l Representat1ve, .lane Johnson .hm Hedoes d1d a frne yob of represenunv the Freshmen of the Hwhhghts' Staff, and Aloma Neumann was the Freshman Ed1tor on the Alamo Staff '1 he two charm1ng attendants to the Homecomxng Queen of 1951 were Karen Sm1th and Martha Alexander Nancy Uhle wa s selected by the F F A as Freshman attendant to the Barnwarnunrv Queen Floyd Branstetter was d1st1nctly honored to be elected not only Freshman Cheerleader, but the only male member of the Pep Squad The class also had numerous members 1n the F H A , F F A , Glee Club, Band, the basketball team and the football team Another accomphshment of whlch the class was very proud was the f1rst pr1ze they rece1ved fo r the1r float 1 n the annual Homecom1ng parade The theme vtas, Welll Cook Warsawls Goose After agay and carefree summer vacat1on, the class once aga1n assembled to begrn 1ts year as snooty Sophomores The class enrollment had dwlndled The year began by electlng an entlrely new slate of off1cers Pres1dent, Paul Balserak, V1ce Pres1dent, Shlrley Turner, Secretary, Barbara Baker, Treasurer, Karen Smlth and Student Councll, Sally Patton N1ne of the boys made the football team and three were on the basketball squad Sam K1lby vu a s selected a s the Outstandmg Sophomore, and made the p1lgr1mage to Jefferson C1ty Betty Kanan and Donna Sm1gh were the Home comxng Attendants and Barnwarmlng Attendant was Sally Patton There was so much Sophomore news that two people were needed to act as r e po rte r s for the Hlghhghts, Martha Alexander and Sally Patton The Sophomore chosen for the Alamo Staff was Karen Smlth A new event of the year was the Sadle Hawluns Dance over wh1ch Sh1rley l Jrner relvned And so at last the class was on the last lap of the long journey, and were Junlors and upper classmen lhe enrollment for the year had taken another drop and was a mere fxfty fxve Offxcers for the year were Presldent, Jxm Hedges, V1ce Pres1dent, Loren l nfleet Secretary, Shxrley Turner Treasurer, Boots Probst, and Student Councxl Representatmve, Aloma Neunxlnn Chosen a s Homecormng attendants we re Anna Wagner and Boots Probst This page IS sponsored by the LOUISIANA MAYTAG CO -I D ,, . .
