Class of 54 Ignore the thorns and reach for the roses The Sen1or class of 54 1S xery 'Jroud of the past h1story of 1tS class It has beena xery act1xe class wh1ch1s shown by 1tS part1c1pat1on IH all school act1x1t1es Let s refresh our memor1es as we look back to the year of 1950 when we entered as Green Freshmen The Freshman class of 1950 entered the halls oi L 1-I S w1th forty n1ne class members It started the ball ro111n0 by elect1nO Dax 1d lunter, Pres1dent BettySchvtarz V1ce Pres1dent Charlotte EXSFSHISSCY Secretary Treasurer and Carolyn I-11les Student COUDC11 Representatne Usually Freshmen are shy 1n the1r ways but that d1dnt aJp1y to our class as we were well represented In football we had three boys DougBurbr1dge DonaldPodany and JohnSk111ern Also IH basketball, were Charles Anderson Doug Burbr1dge Donald Podany and Robert Ph11l1as The Freshman g1r1s were also wellrebresented 1n basketball w1th Lo1s Bland, Donna Sh1xe and Roberta Wh1te mak1ng the team There were elexen Y71I'1S and three boys IH Glee Club Sex en students took part 1n the band Norma 1-1oll1day Ed1th Lambert James Ogle, Robert Ph1ll1ps Jonann Pr1tchett John Sk1llern and J1rnmy Turley Many awards were captured by the Freshman class of 50 51 FreshmanAttendant escortedby Doug Burbr1dge The F rl A and F F A Clubs were wel1f111ed Wlth members of our Freshman class The sponsors of the class were Robert Davls and Fred Rynearson Well Done' Freshmen was what we sa1d when we entered the halls as Snooty Sophomore 1n 1951 We were look1ng forward to add1ng new laurels to our h1story records And we d1d as the record shows We started our Sophomore year by e1ect1ng Robert Ph1111pS Pre sldent B111 Bankhead V1ce Pres1dent LOIS Bland Secretary Treasurer and Suzanne Dungan, Representat1ve to the Student Counc11 These off1cers gu1ded the class of 52 We lost a few of our members dur1n0 the summer Th1s year we started 1ook1ng torward to the Sen1or Trxp so elected Tom Kooreman Treasurer to collect our class dues The class aga1n took part 1n many of the sports We had fue burly boys out fox football and f1xewh1zz bangs xnbasketball However the g1r1s were not left beh1nd as SIX g1r1s made the Bullettes In Band there were exght no1sy Sophomores Tom Kooreman was chosen to make the P11gr1mage to Jefferson C1ty as the Outstandmg Sophomore Lo1s Bland and Donna Sh1ve were Home com1n0 Attendants and were escorted by B111 Bankhead and Donald Podany Roberta Wh1te was F F A Barnwarm1ng Attendant escorted by Charles Ande r son The I-l1ghl1ghts Staff reporter was Ed1th Lambert and Tom Kooreman was reporter for the Alamo Staff We had two boys to 1o1n the L Cl b Doug Burbr1df1e and Dax md Hunter Class sponsors thxs year were W11l1am Ellxs and Janet Stark Well 1t, was school txme agam and the Know all .Tumors startedon the1r way 1nto the year of 1952 53 And what a year lt turned out to be' As Pres1dent ofour class we elected Suzanne Dungan w1th Barbara Spanos Thxs page IS sponsored by the MERCANTILE BANK 5 ' ll ll , . 7 V . v . . . . . . .
