Story, 1952, we began our screen careers as the sixty-four members of the supporting cast of the L. H, S. Story, 1949. We elected Peter Donath, president; Helen Halliburton, vice-president; Darlene Pollard, secretary-treasurer; and Opal Armbruster, student council representative. Mr. Fred Rynearson and Mr. Wirt Fowler were our technical advisors and gave us much guidance in our rise to understudies. Our glamorous and popular member, Helen Halliburton, had the honor of being our freshman attendant to the 1948 Homecoming Queen. She was also freshman attendant to the Bamwarming Queen. As the supporting cast, we were very active in football, basketball, pep squad, band, and glee Club. • We returned in the fall of 1949 as the fifty-four understudies in that year's production. We elected Eddie Holliday, president; Myron Griffith, vice-president; Joyce May, secretary-treasurer; and Darlene Pollard, student council representative, to guide us through our year. Our technical advisors this year were Mr. William Ellis and Mrs. H. R. Bums, Jr. This was the year when we were Quint City Conference Champs and twelve of our boys helped us win that title. Nine boys were out for basketball. Five understudies were admitted to the L Club. They were: Charlie Clark, Francis Craig, Jack Sencenbaugh, Tommy Goodwin, and Finis Corum. We had four members in the pep squad, eleven in glee club, and seven in the band. Our sophomore attendant to the Homecoming Queen was Joyce May, escorted by Myron Griffith. Eva Harriman was the Barnwarming attendant. Our Outstanding Sophomore was Lois Jean Suddarth. 1950-1951 saw fifty-four of us as Tomorrow's Stars. We began an adventurous year of preparation for stardom. This year we elected Gene Reid, president; Charlie Callison, vice-president; W. C. Prewitt, secretary-treasurer; and Joyce May, student council representative. Our technical advisors this year were Mrs. Claude Smallwood and Mrs. Helen Hildebrand. Popular Mary Burns was the junior attendant to the Homecoming Queen. She was escorted by Jack Sencenbaugh. Another popular member, Joyce May, was attendant to the Bamwarming Queen. She was escorted by Gene Campbell. Opal Armbruster was editor of the L. H. S. Highlights, which was published weekly for the first time. She had much help from Mr. Lucy English and the other members of the Highlights staff. This page sponsored by P. N. HIRSCH AND CO.. Five members of our class worked on the Alamo. Five boys wore L. H. S. colors for the Tomorrow's Stars in football, two in basketball, and eight in baseball. Six girls were in basketball from our class. Our first play. Just Ducky, produced under the direction of Miss Mae Hofrieter, was successful and enjoyed by everyone. This year the juniors gave only a banquet--which was very sumptuous. The traditional prom was omitted from the activity calendar. We made it! We are now full-fledged Stars! We worked long and hard, butwe finally reached our goal. Wc chose Wanda Lamme, president; Charles Roan, vice-president; Darlene Pollard, secretary-treasurer. and Gene Reid, student council representative, to lead and guide us through our year as Stars of our production. Our technical advisors this yearwere Mrs. Lucy English and Mr. Arnold Zaeske. Popular and pretty Joyce May was elected to reign over Homecoming festivities. Her two senior attendants were Carole Bland, escorted by Larry Powell, and Shirley Campbell, escorted by Charlie Callison. Mary Burns was senior attendant at the F. F. A. Barnwarming with Charles Roan as her escort. The two student body officers from the senior class were Charlie Callison, president; and Opal Armbruster, secretary-treasurer. Carolyn Creamer was editor of the yearbook, and Lewis Meloan was the business manager. Margaret Chapuis played an important role, being the F. F. A. Barnwarming Queen of L. H. S. Her attendant from the Freshman class was Oey Pitzer, escorted by Charles Kilby. Freda Love was chosen to be the attendant to the 1950 Homecoming Queen, and Charles Kilby escorted her. In September. 1950, the cast was back to begin another year, but this time as ''understudies. Gene Todd was elected president; Jackie Holland, vice-president; Dortha Love, secretary-treasurer; and Margaret Chapuis, student council representative. H. S. gym. Louisiana poured it on in the second half outscoring Silex, 19-7. In the last quarter the L. H. S. girls scored 11 to their opponents two. Donna Shive was I high-point girl for the A’s with 22, followed by Mary limns with two and Carole Bland with one. j The bee squad, however, made it an even split as they outlasted the Silex bees, 11-10. FOOTBALL SQUAD The 1951 football season got under way August 15 when45 reported for practice. Under Coach Robert -Davis, the Bulldogs played their first game September 14, traveling to Pleasant Hill and suffering a defeat of 19-7. They then played Pittsfield, which was their first home game, and lost 26-7. The next week the Bulldogs met a very strong M. M. A. eleven and suffered a hard-to-take 26-0 loss. October 5 was a happy evening for the Bulldogs when they trounced LaPlata 47-6. The Bulldogs then took a hard series of defeats: from Palmyra, 13-20, Shelbina 0-26, and Warsaw 7-26. They then split 50-50 with Centralia 0-0, and ended their season with a very hot night, defeating McCooey 33-19. Although the Bulldogs' record was only two wins and seven losses, no one will deny that Coach Davis had a hard-fighting eleven. Coach Davis used the powerful split-T formation, and the Bulldogs found it very deceptive. Most of their defeats were suffered because of having a small team and lacking good defense. The Bulldogs played the season with seven lettermen returning from last year; namely. Jack SencenDaugh, Jimmy Fry, Gene Todd, Charles Callison, Larry Powell, Dale McMahill, and Charles Rowe. They can be seen at their best during the football and basketball seasons pushing the Bulldogs on to victory. Floyd Branstetter, Patsy Cadwallader, and Dortha Love were elected this year. Freda Love and Oey Pitzer have two and three years experience respectively. Something new has been added, was heard throughout the crowd of spectators at the L. H. S. tournament when the cheerleaders made their debut in their new white sweaters and red circular skirts. iVhen the cheerleaders were asked what they thought the highlights were of this year's sports season, they replied: Oey Pitzer, When the Bulldogs had been having a few bad breaks during the basketball season but were victorious in defeating the Warrenton Conference Champs.” Floyd Branstetter thought the most exciting game the Bulldogs played was the overtime game against Troy during the Tournament when the Bulldogs won by three points. Patsy Cadwallader thought the Elsberry-Louisiana game during the Sub-Regional Tournament at Troy was a fast moving game and very nerve-WTecking. Freda Love said she believed the over-time Wellsville game during the Tournament was wonderful. 6 Dortha Love said the Bowling Green-Louisiana game played here was really exciting. Although Bowling Green won, Louisiana showed excellent sportsmanship. This page is sponsored by STARK BROS. NURSERY. _ T ou rnament This page is sponsored by M. F. A. FUTURE HOMEMAKERS of AMERICA Now making our first appearance under the soft limelight are the 1951-1952 F. H. A. girls. A lot of time was spent in preparation for the many scheduled activities during the year. Starting the year out, a food sale was held in October to pay for other planned activities. In November, the sub-district meeting was held at Mexico with Norma Blackwell installed as president, in December the afternoon Christmas party was held, in January the chili supper was given, and in February, the annual Valentine dance was held. The Vocational Home Economics Department is sincerely appreciative of the help received during this year by all the members of the F. H. A. STUDENT COUNCIL The Production Managers of this motion picture are the members of the L. H. S. Student Council. The members have had many varied problems brought before them, and they have tried to solve these problems with fairness to all concerned. The Student Council was host at the Annual Basketball Tournament, and each member tried to make himself generally useful. One of the most important projects of the Student Council was the sale of government bonds and stamps. This was only one of the many projects that the Student Council carried out. The officers of the Student Council this year were: Charles Callison, President; Gene Todd, Vice President; Opal Armbruster, Secretary-Treasurer. Mr. Galen Lankford is the sponsor. Four delegates were sent to the State Student Council Convention at St. Joseph, Missouri, on March 14 ana 15. Gene Reid, Jackie Holland, Lucille Griffith, and Jane Johnson were the members who attended this meeting. They came back with some very good ideas on what could be done to improve the L, H. S. Student Council. This page sponsored by CONBOY'S SHOE STORE. SEATED: Margaret Chapuis, Mrs. English, Dortha Hughart, Janie Burnett, Charles Rowe Nicky Quattrocchi. Of course the co-operative and cheerful attitude of Mrs. Todd, Mr. Lankford's secretary, makes the assistants look forward to being in the office. Iij the past years there have been only girls working in the office, but this year something new has been added--yes, as most girls say, It's so nice to have a man around the office. So this year the office has two very fine gentlemen to take on responsibilities just as the charming ladies do. The members of the office staff have accomplished many tasks such as answering the telephone, typing letters, checking attendance, taking dictation, running errands, acting as receptionists, and carrying out the plans of a principal's office. The Louisiana High School would like to express in every way possible its gratitude for the co-operation and helpfulness of the office staff and Mrs. Todd. L. H. S. is really indebted to the many students who have given their time and energy to office tasks the past year. They truly have earned the honor of having this yearbook picture. The band began 1952 as one of the six C class bands in Missouri to receive a one rating at the state contest April 28, 1951. These six bands were in competition with seventeen other bands. Needless to say, the band is very proud of this accomplishment. During the first semester the main activity of the band was the ChristmasConcert, which was presented December 20, 1951, under the direction of Mr. Douglas Emerson. The band also gave a concert October 22 at a reception held for Mr. and Mrs. Douglas Emerson. The band has played at many basketball and football games. For the third consecutive year, the band attended the Band Day football game at the University of Missouri. After the Christmas Concert, the band began work on the spring concert and contest numbers. Solos and ensembles also started work on contest numbers. The soloists who performed this year were: Aloma Neumann, flute; Jimmy Turley, clarinet; Nick Nickles, trumpet; Larry Bono, alto saxophone; Joe Carl Shields, bass clarinet; Judy Wood, oboe; Suzanne Dungan, snare drum; and Willene Winner, French hom. The ensembles which performed at contests were: saxophone quartet, clarinet quartet, trumpet trio, trumpet quartet, brass quartet, brass quintet, brass sextet, drum duet, and French horn quartet. HOMECOMING, 1951 What could be more fitting for an annual Homecoming football game than a crisp, chilly night filled with the music from marching bands, yells from the cheerleaders and screams at exciting parts of the game from the bleachers full of spectators? Well, that is a sports newsreel picture of the 1951 L. H. S. Homecoming. Before the game the Louisiana Band gave a marching drill on the field. The football game with the Bulldogs playing Warsaw was beginning. Everyone was giving full support to the Bulldogs for a Homecoming victory. At the half of the game the coronation of the queen took place. Elected by popular vote by the Student Body, lovely Miss Joyce May was crowned Queen of the 1951 Homecoming, by Jack Sencenbaugh, Captain of the football team. The queen had two attendants from each class. They were: Carole Bland (senior) escorted by Larry Powell, Shirley Campbell (senior) escorted by Charlie Callison. Junior Attendants were Lucille Griffith, escorted by Charles Rowe, and Margaret Chapuis, escorted by Eddie Steers; Lois Bland (sophomore attendant), was escorted by Robert Phillips. Donna Shive (sophomore), was escorted by Donald Podany. Freshman attendants were: Martha Alexander, escorted by Wesley Meyers, and Karen Smith, escorted by Jimmy Mosley. Kindergarten attendants were Linda Williamson, escorted by Johnny O'Donnell, and Theo Stark, escorted by Johnny Ray. Flower-girls were Pam Morrow and Sherryl Barker. Crown-bearer was Robert Bray. Train-bearers were Barry Levene and George Hirst. The final score of the game was Louisiana, 7 and Warsaw, 26. This Page is Sponsored by RAY BEHRENS. The pretty square-dance dresses and the bright plaid shirts added to the decorations along with the old rail fence, bales of hay and branches of multicolored leaves. The climax of this festive affair was highlighted by crowning the queen, Miss Lucille Griffith. She was escorted by Bobby Murry and crowned by W. C. Prewitt, F.F. A. President. The attendants and their escorts included in this royal party were Mary Burns, escorted by Charles Roan; Norma Blackwell, escorted by Charles Kilby; Roberta White, escorted by Charles Anderson; and Nancy Uhle, escorted by Sammy Kilby.
