She was joined by Ruth Alcox of Williamston, North Carolina in April 1957. These girls are under the guidance of Dr. George I. Carroll, Pathologist. Some of their classes include Microbiology and Chemistry which they take with the pre-clinical students. What time they are not in classes, they can be found furthering their education of Medical Technology by actual experience in the laboratory. After their first semester in class, they spend the rest of their fifteen month training period learning laboratory technique. 34

LEFT to RIGHT: Joyce Lee, Junior Representative, Carolyn Harris, Senior Representative and Historian, Fran- ces Little, Vice-President, Marilyn Thomas, Presidentg Sylvia Sims, Secretary, Linda Creecy, Treasurer, and Norma McCall, Freshman Representative. I The Student Council is made up of a President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer and three class Presidents. The responsibility for the actual administrative policies of the Student Association is in- vested in this group. These are four purposes of the Student Association: ' 1. To be the offical organization which shall be responsible for the government of the student body and also the medium through which the opinions and wishes of the student body may be expressed. 2. To provide an opportunity for faculty-student discussion through the advisory committee and the student council. 3. To foster social relationships and student activities. 4. To assist in maintaining a high morale and good scholarship in the school. On the first Tuesday of each month the Student Association meets in the Nursing School Auditorium to discuss any plans, problems, or future activities. A program is usually presented by either the student group or faculty. 36
