The Hornets went through their District play undefeated with a record of 8 wins and no losses. The season record was 28 wins and 6 losses. In Dis - trict play the Hornets scored 468 points in 8 games and held their opponents to 242 points, giving them a game average of 48 points, while holding their opponents to an average of 30 points. During the season the Hornets played El Campo, Edna, Cuero, Bay City, Laviar, Sweeney, West Columbia, Colemen M. Gregory, Killeen, East Ber- nard and Ganado. They defeated each of their opponents with the exception of East Bernard and Coleman. Sweeney and these three teams were played in invitation Tour- naments and were played only once. The Basketball season has been a success- ful one, andat this time the Hornets are on their way to the Regional Tourna- ment, and we all hope that on March 1st, 2nd, and 3rd they will be pounding the Hardwood in Geogory Gym in Austin at the State Meet. The Hornets lose three boys of this years team by graduation; Carrol Schnei- der, Frank Koenig, and Norbert Sablatura. These seniors did a fine job this year and will be missed a lot next year. Buzzy Keith who led the scoring parade for the Hornets will be back along with Billy Nolen, Gus Vajdos, and Walter Hanson. Basketball 'Team fluniol Basketball 'Team junici Basketball Gaining valuable experience and showing rapid improvement from game to game, the Junior Cagers developed into a scrapping basketball team which was capable of holding its own with the best. In district play, the Hornets met and defeated 5 district teams. The district tournament which decided the district champion had not been played when this book went to press. The A team consisted of 7 boys and was paced by Orsak and Bain who were the leading scorers. Branscum, Foltyn, Treude, Dybala, and Nolen played a consistent and scrapping brand of ball. The team participated in two tournaments. They were defeated by West Columbia in the same finals at El Campo and won 34th place in the Lolita tour- nament . A Junior in the Louise High School, has been named the Gold Star 4-H Girl for 1950 in Wharton County. This is the highest honor that can come to a 4-H club girl. Miss Weishuhn succeeds Miss Sybil Hone of Hungerford, the 1949 Gold Star Girl. Miss Weis- huhn was one of the three runners-up in the 1949 contest. The 1950 Gold Star Girl piled up a total of 270 points to win second place in the girls' 4-H exhibits at the county fair, being second to Miss Isabel Filip, Louise sophomore. She captured more than 25 ribbons with her exhibits, ob- taining first in champion hen , first in canned goods, first in textile painting, and first in head scarf. Making the necessary points for a Gold Star Girl has kept Bernadette busy for the last two years. Her hobbies are shellcraft, reading, textile painting, and she is also interested in competitive sports, having been a member of the doubles' at Louise that won the district championship in Bowling lastspring. She is a member of the pep squad and last year played vol leybal I. She also represented the Louise4-H club at A. M. College last year and is an active member of the Junior Newman Club in El Campo.
