FUN OFF CAMPUS Year Round At Laurel Mill Built prior to 1849, Laurel Mill was one of the first cotton spinning plants in N.C. By the early seventies, the mill looked like a worn-out relic of the past. In 1972, Wil- liann Holmes and his wife Margaret re- turned to his native Franklin County. They undertook rejuvenation of the mill as a retirement hobby. Today, the mill is in operation grinding wheat and corn for local farmers. Located on Sandy Creek in Franklin County, Lau- rel Mill attracts picnickers, rowboaters, swimmers and sightseers year around. It is a favorite get-away place for Louis- burg College students, who find the wide expanses of grass and the Mill and creek a wonderful place to relax with friends and enjoy the out-of-doors. Enjoying sunning on the rocks at Laurel Mill. two Louisburg students have found a nice place to get away. How ' s this for a lit? Frolicking at the Will, Sally Coleman looks as if she ' s been on a crash diet. Robin Thomas helps her take in her belt. 12 STUDENT LIFE

Tratton Reynolds and Lorraine Williams keep Connie Smith busy Budgeting money is part of being a col- lege student. With so many expenses and temptations, budgeting is a task that re- quires great self-control. While the cafeteria service has been paid for by most students, the local res- taurants lure some with anything from bis- cuits to steak dinners. Students with little budgeting will-power have been spotted at PiZ2a Hut on a regular basis. The college snack bar serves students who are easily weakened by the smell of hamburgers on the grill. Louisburg students like to have a good time and the cost of entertainment doesn ' t seem to slow them down a bit. The night-life ranks pretty high on their list of priorities Sacrifices in other areas have been made by students so that they can afford to go out with their friends. While food and entertainment are strong temptations, laundry and school supplies are expenses not to be over- looked. The laundry room often has more busi- ness than it can handle. Students readily put their change into the washers and dryers so that they will have clean jeans and shirts for the big night out or for their morning classes. Another expense many freshmen find difficult to bear is the price of their text- books Sophomores have been through the demanding book purchases before. But they too feel the pain of handing over the cash. Don ' t fret, there is a way to overcome this weakness in budgeting money. You can wear dirty jeans, eat in the cafeteria and spend all of your spare time with your books. 11 STUDENT LIFE
