Empty again? Even junk mail is welcome to freshmen facing empty mailboxes. GETTING ADJUSTED The first few days of school almost seem like a glorified trip to summer camp with all the dances and partying. But all too soon, classes start and there are $120 worth of books to be bought, and we ' re really expected to read and study them. Early morning classes can be a rude awakening after a night of late socializing with friends. And to make matters worse, teachers just aren ' t impressed with tales of alarm clocks that didn ' t go off. And then there are the dire warnings from teachers that we should expect to spend two hours studying outside of class for every hour we spend in class. And Mom ' s not here to do our laundry. And the cafeteria food just isn ' t what we ' re used to. And a week has passed and there is no mail from home. On the bright side, there is much inde- pendence and a world of new friends. 8 STUDENT LIFE
