President Cecil dobbins In some respects, the richest and the most creative experiences of life occur in college. Here we come in contact with great personalities of the past and the present. We form friendships that grow more precious through the years. We learn to appreciate deeply and we appropriate for ourselves great literature, fine music, enduring art, noble ideas, provocative thoughts. Here we learn to thmk for ourselves. Here we learn to Uve and work with others. College is not preparation lor life. It is life itself— full, exciting, absorbing, challenging. It is fortunate for us that so many of the experiences of 1961-62 can be depicted upon tlie pages of The Oak so drat when we turn these pages, whether it be in 1962 or in 2002, the sight of names and faces, of unforgettable scenes, will stir memories that thrill and inspire and bless.
