On its pages we see reflections of students engaged in all phases of living associated with a modern school. Loudoun County High School is one of the crowning achievements of the citizens of Loudoun County. Individual pupils, each with his wealth of undeveloped resources, have enrolled here to take their places in a venture of democratic participation, sharing ideas and knowledge and being in turn tempered by these experiences. The adolescents who came here with eager hearts and open minds emerge as thinking individuals, better equipped, through awareness of ability, to face the perplexing problems of our highly complicated society. Yes, the citizens of Loudoun are proud of their heritage, and Loudoun County High School is proud to be instrumental in helping to teach them how to preserve it. 2 TIIE 1955 L0lllI LOUll0UN Ann Hansbarger . . . We want to be remembered for establishing standards such as these, and we hope all the underclassmen will follow our example, Knowing that through union comes strength, we are standing together to face all the events yet to come in our senior year, We take pride in being the first graduating class of L. C, H, S. , not only because ours is a beautiful new building, but also because of the knowledge we have gained that enables us to look at the future with renewed faith. We can be proud, too, because we will have made our history. LINDSEY, Doctor of Psychology, was busy leafing through his appointment book, when suddenly he looked up with surprise and explained to his head nurse, JANICE BUCK, that one of their former teachers, Mrs. Myers, was coming in the afternoon to express some of her deep thoughts about the class of '55, first graduating class of L.C. H.S. At this moment his secretary, GENEVIEVE BAKER, came in to remind Dr. Lindsey of his luncheon date with the famous pedi- atrician, MOLLY C. BRADSHAW. Usually Dr. Bradshaw was very prompt, but when she explained thatshe had been almost run over by a truck driven by LESTER BENNETT, her delay was understood. Lester and JOHN SCHULTZ were in competition with their trucks to win a very promising contract from BRUCE MCINTOSH in his agricultural ventures. It was rumored that state policeman, BRICKIE PEACH, was patrolling their districts to make sure they obeyed all rules of safety. MARY FURR, the telephone operator, called to inform the receptionist, ELAINE COMPTON, that Mrs. Myers had left for her appointment. On leaving the taxi, Mrs. Myers saw several of her former students. FREIDA BENJAMIN, MARY ELIA BODMER, BETTY LOY, and ANN POPOVICH, who were employed as secretaries, were hurrying back to work after a coffee break. Their employer, lawyer LYNN THOMAS, met them at his office door with a look of disgust--third coffee break this morning--could it be they were interested in ATHEY and BUMPUS' Con- struction work going on outside? As she turned the street corner, she suddenly found herself under a magnifying glass be- longing to ALICE EDWARDS, the F.B.I. agent, who was surveying for clues on her latest mystery. Her secretary, SALLY MARTZ, had the job of compiling her closed cases into a volume illustrated by PAT STYLES and published by the RUFUS CAMPBELL Publishing Company. As she walked down the street, she passed the new Safeway designed by architect TERRY BALL. She had heard it was under new management with SHIRLEY HOUGH and DAVID WHITE. She stopped and went into JEANNIE CARNES' beauty salon to make an appointment to have her hair fixed. There under the dryer sat JANE McGAHA, owner ofa chain of Dime Stores. Jane, chatting with PATSY GRAY SHEAFFER, who had just finished doing some shopping for her family, ap- peared nervous and explained that she dreaded to think about her next appointment, which was with LETA SUE BRANN, the painless dentist. As it was getting close to time for her appointment, Mrs. Myers left in a hurry for her business at the medical building. While waiting to be announced, Mrs. Myers picked up the latest edition of Vogue and noticed ANN ROYSTON on the cover modeling a new creation by BEVERLY BURTON with the caption Burton vs. Dior. JOYCE FLYNN, the main hall nurse, led Mrs. Myers to the elevator and she met BETTY WILLIAMS on her way to Betty's private office where she had charge of the student nurses. The elevator stopped at the sixth floorg and Mrs. Myers stepped off, only to trip on the carpet being laid by the employees of the NEWKIRK Modern Atomic Laundry. She was helped to her feet by the famous football star, DONALD BEACH, who had just been in for a physical check- up. She walked into the office and relaxed on the couch which had formerly been occupied by such famous people as the great Met singer, CHARLOTTE ORRISON, the illustrious engineer, WILLIAM TIETZ, the brilliant electrical technician, TED JACKSON, and RUBY LIGHT, who had become overwrought taking a census of fingerprints for the F.B. I. In thought she began to recall those people whom she had known in '55, Suddenly she was buying a ticket from SYLVIA WEANING, reservationist, on the Waugerman-Moran airway, owned by SAM WAUGERMAN and HERMAN MORAN, to go to Hollywood and attend the premier of a new movie co-starring SHIRLEY PENDLEY and FRANK EATON. As she boarded the plane, she was greeted by JUNE HALL and RUBY FOX, the hostesses. SALLY INGERSOLL was a passenger on the plane, too: she was .on her way going to take a screen test for swimming the Mediterranean Sea. BILLY KIMES, the mining engineer, was on the plane, going to Colorado to see a new element, Saturneum, which had been isolated by the exalted chemists, JOAN LIPPS and TOMMY SOWERS. On his way to the Methodist convention was the Reverend RALPH WINDLE seated next to the revolutionary secretary, PHOEBE CRIMM, who had just written a new commercial book, How To Act Bright-Eyes While Sleep- ing. JOHANNA KEISTER and JANIE COOPER were on their way to teach dancing at the M. G. M. studios. Tue pilot, JOHN ALTMAN, called for KITTY LOU KIDWELL, air line nurse, to attend to BETTY SUE ELLMORE, the outstanding novelist who was suffering from heart-burn. Her secretary, JOAN BAKER, seemed worried because she didn't have such bad attacks often. JOSEPH CORNETT, a government executive, was traveling home from an Eastern convention with his secretarial staff consisting of HELEN ENDRESS, DEIDRES CARNES, MYRA JEAN GEORGE, and LINDA LOWRY. They were excited over the dresses designed by MARIE LESTER, who had competed in Paris shows. JEAN HERNDON, the home economist who re- placed Betty Crocker, had asserted a new plan called Pil-a-Day, a replacement for food which was being tried as an ex- periment by the families of BETTY CORE, PEGGY DILLARD, JANE GLASCOCK, SUE HOOKER, and SYLVIA SWAIN. Al- though Pi1-a-Day was very time-saving, the husbands were complaining they'll never get middle-age spread on pills. The co-pilot, BRUCE WIISON, announced the next stop: and several distinguished gentlemen from the armed services got on the plane to go view new talent in Hollywood for an over-seas show. They were Sgt. JAMES COCKRELL, Gen. BOBBY FARMER, Col. DONALD FOUCHE, Corp. EDDIE GEORGE, Lt. EDWARD GRAY, Adm. JAMES KEMPER, and Rear Adm. CHARLES ROLLISON. These men were selected because of their ability by our country's first woman president, PATRICIA SHOAF. At this stop, DIANA QUERY and KATIE MAE PEARSON took over as hostesses. Reading material was passed out by the nurse, MILDRED JACKSONg and Mrs. Myers was delighted to see that two of her former students, DICK BOGGESS and ROBERT FUTRELLE, who were working in the field of engineering, were soon to makea trip to Princeton University and replace Einstein, whose opinions were now considered outmoded. The well-known equestrienne, BARBARA GRAHAM, was reading one of the latest farm magazines edited by PAUL ALLISON. Her attention was centered on an article listing the six farmers in the U. S. - BILLY MCCLELIAN - top fruit producer, LEE RIDGEWAY - top crop farmer, GEORGE MENTZER - beef rancher, WILLIAM WASHINGTON - top vegetable farmer, CHARLES SENSABAUGH - top dairyman, and WILLIAM SURFACE - famous for his mechanized farming. His machinery was designed by HARRY FLING and JIMMY SMITH. Mr. Surface gave to WAYNE CROUCH, FREDDIE HATCHER, and SONNY TRIBBY all credit for keeping his machinery in per- fect conditiong and to his b00kkeep6r, EDDIE WRIGHT, for his efficient work in keeping records straight. The Secretary of Agriculture, GAYLE POTTS, had written an article on the new U. P. I. experimental project which had been surveyed by IEROY FRANKLIN. CURTIS SHOCKLEY, the president of Johns Hopkins, was on the planet he was going to Columbia University to lecture on smoking cigarettes backwards for less nicotine. With him were his secretaries - SHIRLEY BOLEY and MARLENE CAREY, and his head nurse, BARBARA WILSON. BARBARA CARTER and BUNNY LEONARD were also passengersg they planned to visit JIMMY GEIMAN and GAYLE CUNNINGHAM, to compile notes on How to Teach Basketball Without Stepping on the New Gym Floors. The replacement pilots, LYNNE YAUGER and TUBBY WELSH, instructed all passen- gers to fasten the safety belts for the landing at the Hollywood Air Port. On arrival, Mrs. Myers headed for the souvenir counterg there she was waited on by ERNESTINE REYNOLDS. As she hurried down the street, she paused at the familiar sound of NANCY REPASS' hit song coming from GEORGE TITUS'S ecord shop. Glancing in, she saw TOMMY JACKSON, the professional baseball player, browsing around under the watch- ful eye of BOBBY McINTOSH, the clerk. Passing a school, she noticed EVELYN FLORANCE and NANCY ELGIN holding a ladder for a co-teacher, ROSALEE GRENATA, who was untangling a kite from the new color television antenna which had been recently installed by electrician PAUL RUNION. The secretary, BETTY SMITH, was calling directions from the second -story window. ANNA MAE FIELDS, the 4-H leader, and her secretary, JEAN MULLEN, were just arriving in a car .Mrs. Myers was surprised to see SHIRLEY EVERI-IART, PATSY l-IACKLEY, MAUREEN FINAN, DELAINE FINCHAM, HELEN JEWELL, DOROTHY BRAMHALL, JULIA REID, and SHIRLEY STRAWSBURGER, all secretaries, coming out of L. G. POLAND'S business establishment. She met a lawyer, JIMMY JACKSON, talking to four clerks, JIMMY SANTMYER, JIMMY SUTPHIN, GAYLE YATES, and TOMMY FRYE. Just trying to get the facts said Jimmy, and he seemed to be getting four sets of theml BUDDY FLIPPO, the comedian, was entertaining a group at the street corner. Among those listening were a WAC, NANCY FLEMINGg two secretaries, DORIS HAGENBUCH and JEAN KITTS, from the office of Senator FRED SAYLORg three members of the schoolboard, ANN HANSBARGER, JIMMY HUTCHISON, and LORRAINE LANHAMQ and several nurses, SANDRA McDOWELL, JOAN RAY, ROSEMARY ROBINETTE, and SUE ANN WENNER. At this moment Dr. Lindsey interrupted to summon another psychiatrist, JOAN SPRAGUE, and several more secre- taries, FLORENCE ROLl..ISON, MARY ELLEN SMITH, MABEL THOMAS, and ELIZABETH WILLIAMS. Mrs. Myers explained that she had had to rush because of a dinner engagement with the librarian, MA LINDA TRITTIPOE, and SYLVIA MILLER, a commercial teacher. Walking along, she noticed a building contractor, BILLY RUTTER, and his assistant, FRANKLIN RED' MAN, who had just returned from Africag they were working on a building .... After collaborating, the two psychiatrists came to the conclusion that too much hard work and strain in connection with her last school annual was the reason for Mrs. Myers' visit. They prescribed plenty of rest. . . While getting her prescription from the druggist, she noticed HAROLD MACKNET, an engineer, and his secretary, GAIL ZINK, having H Soda --..
