I-1 A i -i...- HISTORY OF THE CLASS OF 1953 On a September day in l9hl an assortment of small excited girls and boys were led into the Lost Creek first grade room There we took the first step toward an education Of that group ten are still with us, Diane Bassel, Gary Brown, Jack Diceglie, Virginia Dillon, Goldie Harris, Billy Hickman, Carole Ladwig, Loretta Law, Jack Swisher and Phillip Winters. A new principal and Joyce McComas came to us in third grade In the fifth grade Carmie Scalise, Shirley Cochran, Jim Cutlip and Lon Skinner Joined us Harry Gray Joined us in slxth grade From Mcwhorter we welcomed Norma Prince, Lawrence Layne, Patty White, Richard Casto and Sharon Shock to share the adventure of en tering Junior High School We celebrated the event with a party at the Club Room Carole Ladwig was elected cheer leader this year The bruises have faded, but not the memories of the weiner roast and skating party we had at Roanoke when we were Eighth Graders We may have been green, but it was a wonderful feeling to become Freshmen John Latta was added to our class Lawrence Layne was el ected President, Ronel Moody, Vice President, Patty White, Secretary, Shirley Forrester, Treasurer At the end of the year Richard Casto left our class We sold Longhorn T shirts to everyone and began to show pro ise of financial genius oy selling hush ls of popcorn at the games poured and the pool seemed to have been filled with ice water, but it was a lot of fun Phillip Winters won the Patrol Award Joyce McComas won the Social Science Award Carole Ladwig was chosen sheer leader and has held the position each year since then Quite a delegation came up from Mt Clare when we were Sopho nores We have only Bill Snyder, John Dodd, Charles Critchfield and Ray Hayhurst left Carole Ladwig was elected re ident, Ronel Moody, Vice President, Joyce McComas, Secret ry, Sharon Shock, Treasurer Mr and Mrs McComas gave a party for us t their home and we went to Lake Riley for our end of school celebration With our bank account in mind we sold magazines and peddled more POpcorn, with the aid of a mechanical corn poper This year we beg n to take a more active part 1n school affairs, and as a result won recognition in different fields Joyce McComas was elected Homecoming attendant Loretta Law won the Home Economics Award, Norma Prince won the English Award, Joyce McComas won the school Spirit Award and Phillip Jinters won the Patrol Award O O . . . . . . . . . 1 . . - O . . ' P s' ' 1 ' ' ' a ' . .' . a ' O . . . . . , Ju . . , 0 L . ,. m. V 0 Reaching the rank of Juniors, we felt that the world, or a large part of it, belonged to us and we started plans to prove it. As a beginning we elected Jack Swisher, President, Joyce McComas, Vice President, Carole Ladwig, Secretary, Patty White, Treasurer. Time was about equally divided between study and schemes to make money. We sold cokes at games. Ne did very well.
