F. Queen. In 1915 the structure of the building was completed. In this fi same year three teachers were employed, one teaching the seventh and eighth V grades. The increased enrollment brought forth a demand for some type of social activities. Mr. Queen with the help of the student body formed two Literary so- btw cieties, the Excelsior and the Grant, a Glee club, and a Dramatic club. Four years soon passed and the first class--the Pershing class-graduated in 'qw 1918. At this time Mr. C. V. Davis was principal, and with his advice and that of the class advisor, the first Year Book was published under the name of Echoes 4 This name was changed in 1920 to Memories ll The students continued to come to the Hill of Knowledge in such increas- y N ing numbers that a new addition was made to the building in 1921. With more gli room in the building, the Home Economics Department was added to the list of subjectsg and a very successful year was ,spent under the principalship of Miss gl 1 Anna K. Spees. I The first Gymnasium was built in 1922, and athletics came into full sway. The same year saw the birth of the first Paper to be edited in Lost Creek. Thei month- U' ly paper was named the Lost Creek Reflector. But best of all came the organizing L of the Honor club, boosting all students having an average standing of 85 per cent. C Only students making this average are eligible to the club. The club has over fifty H 1 members at present.. MC The year 1926 brought another increase in the enrollment, and the demand for ici more building. The second addition to the building was made that year. Lost S1 Creek High School was recognized by the North Central Association of Colleges gg' and Secondary Schools, making it a first class junior and Senior High School. ' In 1928 our school entered, for the first time. the ul. L. VV. L. C. fjane Lew. f Weston, and Lost Creekj Literary Contest. Then too, there was added to the .3 course of studies the Commercial course. The Dramatic club has been revived and is the Orchestra organized. Invitations for graduation have been standardized for four years. The faculty has increased to nine and a full time librarian. 14, Prmelpals of Lost Creek H :gh School L14 fu Mr. G. F. Then we were as Freshmen usually are, the joke of the school, being the ki? victims of many pranks, but these experiences only made us more determined to Succeed and to show the other classes that we were not as green as we looked. For our advisor we elected Rella Linger. 'li' As Sophomores we were well represented in the activities of the school. Emmaleen Young won the Kemper Gold Medal Contest. Lane Daugherty and H Rob Holbert were members of the Basketball team. Qi This year the Junior class has made steady progress and the class is much , y indebted to Mr. Miller, our advisor, for its success. This year the class had the opportunity of publishing the 'fReflector. Every- one in the class is working diligently toward making it something worth while and we feel that our efforts have not been in vain. We are represented in basketball fgirlsj by Nadine Hardman, Mary Van ti Horn and Kathryn Haselden. Boys by Lane Daugherty and Rob Holbert. L VV e were well represented in the J. L. VV. L. C. Literary Contest. Four mem- C ' bers of our class, Emmaleen Young, Virginia Smith, Burgett Allman and Albert H Stonestreet took part in the finals. ii, While we are struggling on toward our goal, we are resolved to be true to our- selves, our friends, classmates and Country, and to make our lives of use and bp, service to all with whom we meet. 9, ff 3 YQ lr R .lt V B aaa. il lm gy xl' G wi T ls E5 P i ,Po in .Ni s ,ps , f' I c Y I s A l Q x 7 , A 1 SS ,A ONIORE CI PH S0 X rl e 'Wi3?i'37If!3i'?'?'39f1i ' 'fl file , 4 J Sophomore Class Il'resident .....,............................:,............,....,.............................................. Aside from the electing of the officers and reorganizing the club a new plan for the initiation was worked out. All of the duties or activities that were assigned to the new members were something that pertained to civic duties. A constitution was planned and written by' some of the older members of the club. Later there were some projects planned which have not been fully car- ried out but we hope to finish them before the year is out. 6 all 4' vwsafiasifese U3iiE19t- we JUNIOR CIVICS CLUB .-4 r l Junior Civics Club . v Pres1dent ....................................................................... ......................... . .Walter N utter Vice President .,,,,.,,,,,,,.,,.,,,,,,,,,,4,,,,,,A , ,,,,,,, ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,.,, ,,,,,,,,,i,,,,.,,,.,., R a chel Kemper Secretary-Treasurer ...................,.........,... . .....................................A........... flidlla Tolley Advi 501' ,,,,,,K,-,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, ,,,,,,,,,.,4,,,,,,,, L ,.,.v,,.,.,,,,,.,..,. .,......,,.,.....,...................... lV I l'. Although they beat us badly, we came home with the fire of determination burning brighter than ever. Our next start against Jane Lew showed our ability to come back and win when we took them over by a large score. Excellent playing by Lemon and Daugherty was outstanding. Lemon scored eight buckets. The game of all games was with West Milford. The squad worked, talked and dreamed of this game from the beginning of the season. At last the date came and the rivals met at the L. C. gym. The people of West Milford came confident that they would see their boys win as in previous years. The whistle blew, the game was on! The L. C. boys started the fireworks by making a field goal in the first minute of play and from that time on they led through the entire game. The West Milford team was unable to cope with the playing of our boys, who would not be denied victory. At the end of the game wer led 27 to 12. Every pass or play was stopped by the guards, Hudkins and Thrash, who both played a brilliant game for L. C. Captain Daugherty, Lemon and Maxwell passed the ball up the floor to score baskets time after time. This being the first game L. C. had won from West Milford for a number of years the following day the students and players had a brief vacation from regular school routine. Another time L C showed her strength was at West Union when they over came a big lead of 14 to 3 at the half to win the second canto by a score of 29 to 19 The school and community were very much pleased with the work the team did at the Clarksburg Sectional 1' ournament Winning games with Wallace and from the strong Cairo team placed us in the tri finals where we met and were beaten by Victory However we were rewarded very highly when we received the trophy for the team showing the best sportsmanship and conduct at the tourna ment Captain Daugherty also brought honors to our school when he was selected as center on the second all tournament team Although we lost as many games as we won the boys proved themselves good sports showed good team work and gave L C one of the most successful basket ball seasons for some time will :W ,Q . i'5l 3921 IIE In lf 'qi ' If .I it .lg ZA It .24 .3 2 gl. He is not only a good cap- tain but is one of the best centers in the state. He was always seen fighting hard to win and through his good judgment often brought the team to victory. y JAMES LEMON, Fortvard James is known by all, is not very large or tall. but when he gets the ball, look out! for he is sure to tally. .lim is an all around good sport-at home, in the game and at school. , ISAAC MAXWELL, Forward ' Ike, one of the youngest players on the team, was always on the job and through his good floor work helped win many a game. ALLMAN THRASH, Guard ' Here is another young fellow from last year's Junior High team. Allman al- ways did splendid work, kept many an opponent from making a basket and won many a cheer by his sensational shooting. REZIN HUDKINS, Guard Rezin is a veteran from last year's team. ,He has played the same steadyl game that he is known for and making his last year his best, he has exhibited a great game at guard that surpasses his performance of former years. We know that it will be difficult for anyone to fill his place on the team so efficiently. CLAUDE DAVISSON, Substitute Here's another star of the team. He always goes into a game fighting' hard, and determined to win. When in a tight place you can always depend upon Claude to help you out. He can play guard as well as forward and showed his skill many times at both positions. At shooting fouls he was a whiz. VV1 l.l,IA M KE M PER, Substitute Bill possesses a great deal of skill. No one on the squad was more faithful at practice, put forth more interest or energy. ln his playing he was always ready to do his bit and his most noted characteristic is his smile with his ever sunny disposi- tion behind it. ' CHARLES IDOUGLAS, Subsltutc Here is a boy who always played his best and made many a point through his skill to handle the ball under the basket. He will always be remembered for his playing at the Sardis game. ' DEAN MOFEETT, Manager Dean the greatest manager of them all, who was always willing to help at all tasks great or small. He won the esteem of all the basketball boys, school and citi- zens of Lost Creek through his loyalty and service at l.. C. H. S. S33 MR. WATRING, Coavh ia! This year we were fortunateiin having Mr. Denver Watring as Coach of li el basketball. Mr. Watring is a graduate of Davis-Elkins College where he spe- ,V cialized in coaching and received his athletic training under the famous Cam ilf Henderson. He also attended the Spears-Henderson school of Coaching last sum- RQ mer. He brought a new method of playing with which the boys were unfamiliar ?I A and he had a stupendous task confronting him at the beginning of the season. How- llf E cver, he has overcome this difficulty and has developed a team that Lost Creek is gp proud of. We have just cause to be optimistic about next year's team for Mr. ,IQ Watring has started a nucleus which we hope, will place Lost Creek among the x8 leaders of the Monongahela Valley Association. wp, ?Ii elf ' o 0 I , qw Senzor H :gh School Basketball Schedule ti Q, ,fl - ef if fi Lost Creek ................. ......,..... 9 Weston ..,................................. 40 Lost Creek .,........,................... 12 Bridgeport .............................. 20 V11 E ily Lost Creek .........,..........,......... 34 jane Lewl .... .....................,..... 2 7 xx Lost Creek ....................,.......,. 29 West Union ......,....
