Freshman In ztzatzon The Sophomores lmtxated the Freshmen the second week of school They were each gwen a slap of paper from a member of the Sophomore class On these slips were dtrectnons for dressmg on mltxatxon day Some were told to dress ln gunny sacks and shxrts and some of the boys had to wear women s dresses shorts skxrts blouses and shoes Some of them looked hor rxble They were made to get up before the assemly and told to do crazy thmgs by the members of the Sophomore class Everyone ln the assembly enjoyed this greatly Then they were paraded through the grade rooms for everyone to laugh at The Sophomores gave them a party after wards U1 the hxstory room Both classes played games and had refreshments jesse Crabtree recewed the prlze for being the best sport Students Attend Internatzonal Dazry Show An all day trlp by the agriculture class was taken an October In lndnanapolls they vlslted the State Fair Grounds where the International Darry show was being held There the class prac tlced on mdlvldual Judgmg of the cattle Those who attended the show were Glenn Hlmelnck Gerald McGuneg1ll Gene I-hmellck Dean Lester Bruce Petro and Mr Brunegraff Magazzne Awards Early ln the fall the jumors and Seniors undertook a two weeks magazme drxve awards be given to the students showing hugh salesmanshlp ablllty john Golhher and Paula McCollum each won a pmt of lce cream for hlghest sales of the fxrst day A Browme reflex camera with flash attachment was awarded to Dean Lester for hugh est durmg the two week drxve For those that sold one hundred dollars worth or more trophxes were awarded The proud reclplents were Dean Lester john Paul Golllher Vlrgxma Metsker and Paula McCollum Those awarded certlfncates for sellmg thirty dollars worth were Dean Lester john Golhher Vxrglma Metsker Paula McCollum Mary Pangborn Bruce Petro Carl Baldwm Stella Weaver and Conme Rawlings Junzor and Semor Party After the bug jumor and Semor magazine drive the gurls threw a party for the boys smce the boys proved to be the better salesmen lmmedlately after school both the junxor and Semor glrls accompamed Mrs johnson home where they fixed sandwiches and made last mmute arrangements for the party After the boys arrived various games were played In one contest each boy attempted to set a pm curl on a gurl s head as she undertook to tae the boy s necktne Gerald and Barbara proved to be the most successful and as rewards recewed lolhpops Then the party switched mto full swing and everyone grabbed a partner for an old fashloned square dance The rooms echoed wxth laughter when one or both squares became confused and the record spun on wxth new unheeded calls All joined ln the swxnging and promenadmg shakmg the room as they c rcled until everyone dropped with exhaustion Sandwiches and cokes were then devoured by the hungry dancers Those attendmg were Mildred Prlce Conme Rawlxngs Marllta Thornburg Betty Terrell Stella Weaver Barbara Luellen Berald McGuneg1ll john Golhher B111 Pangborn Carl Baldwm Gene I-llmelnck Glenn Hlmellck Mary Pangborn Bruce Petro Vlrgtma Metsker Mr Havlza and Mrs johnson Latzn Lwes Agwn The Latin Class proved to the Losant school world that Latm can be a medium of commu nicatxon They also showed how the Roman glrls used to dress They did this by presentmg mn costume before different groups a little Latin play which they gave first m Latin then ln English They also sang Gaudeamus lgltur Clifford Underwood who IS audltmg the Latin Class helped the girls with the song A male volce was a welcome addxtxon to the singing The gurls m the class are Marsena Davault known Ln Latxn Class as Livla Ernestlne Lee KAUYBIIB, lrls Newman Valxrlaj and Barbara Terrell llulxal oo Q . 1 . 1 1 1 . Halloween Carm-val Featured lt s the mght of October 231-d Look at all the cars parked along the street tonlght Must be because of the junior and Senlor Halloween Carnival Let s hurry Here inside Bull Pangborn sxts sellnng door prxze tickets offering several useful prizes dnsplayed ln rows on the bleachers Also we can buy a chance on a flfteen pound turkey which will be awarded later this evening Gathered before a basketball goal with Dean Lester and john Golllher are fellows shoot mg to wxn cigars or candy Around large tables with prizes heaped up work Bruce Petro and Glenn Hnmelnck callxng out numbers on Bxngo Attractive cakes cover a large table ln the center of the hall where Paula McCollum and Stella Weaver award them to the lucky persons on the cake walk Near the side Vlrgmla Metsker marks up the votes on a close race Ln the Kmg and Queen contest A long llne IS formed before thus corner attraction Why lt s the fish pond with Barbara Luellen and Betty Terrell flxmg the hooks Wlth colorful balloons pxnned around and on the dart target Gene Hxmellck and Carl Baldwin hand us a fist full of darts so we try to burst the balloons Then we go unto the dark spook house where Gerald McGu.negxll and Mary Pangborn almost scare the wuts out of us wtth the Egyptian mummy Let s see what goes on mslde here it s a movxe As Kenneth Evans takes the tickets we settle down to watch a side spllttmg com edy Hurry Hurry My I m thxrsty let s get something to drlnk Here working are Marnlta Thornburg Connie Rawlings and Mildred Price Everyone is gathering around the King and Queen contest After the votes are tabulated Norma Golliher and Bill Pangborn are crowned by Vlrgmxa The Kmg s crown fits luke a dog collar The lucky number drawn for the turkey was held by johnnte Strlckler With the auction closing an evenlng of fun and entertain ment ends for us too Pep Club Students fund they can participate ln basketball too by yelling their heads off well almost But this yellmg msn t very effective with everyone yelling something dlfferent Vlrginla Metsker The energetic leaders rounded up the lungbusters to form a pep club Barbara Luellen was elected Presxdent janet Cromis Vice President and Paula McCollum Secretary and Treasurer The clubs activities Lncluded selling novelty basketball pins to have funds for taking buses to games Speech Class Presents Declamatzon The jumor and Senior speecn class under the direction of Mrs ohnson presented an evening program of poems to the P T A They were as follows Carl Baldwin Curfew Kenny Evans Lovelxest of Trees Gene Himelxck Plantonlo Dean Lester Antony s Second Speech over Caesar Paula McCollum The House with Nobody ln it Gerald McGuneglll Crossing the Bar Vnrgnnxa Metsker Entertaining her Blg Sister s Beau Bill Pangborn L Envoy Mary Pangborn Be the Best of Whatever you Are Bruce Petro Invictus Mildred Prlce Abou Ben Adhem Connne Rawlmgs The Psalm of Life Marllta Thornburg The Old Man and jim Betty Terrell Flander s Field January 11th Red Letter Day Mrs Klipsch took tne hugh school Home Ec group on a fneld trip january llth to Muncie The group orlgmally planned to tour the dry goods and ready made departments ln lndlanapolls but the road condxtnons were too hazardous The boys took this opportunity to collect scrap All day long trucks tractors and wagons came back to the school buxlding loaded with a large assortment of scrap The proceeds wlll go for the junior and Senior Class trip . . .
