Past Events of he Class of 51 One evenmg as we the class of Sl watched TV mysteruous program flashed before our eyes And lo the announcer saud Tonught on Little Town the makers of artu flclal rain present the history of a group called the Losantvllle Seniors 'The time us fall 1939 the place Losantville School thirteen luttle scared sux year olds cluster about the steps tull the teacher Mrs Frank McCollum brungs them unsude All day away from mother us goung to be a strain Bruce Petro shyly comes un followed by Bull Trunder Dean Lester Lowell Hester Virgunua Metsker Paula jane McCollum Bobby Freeman jimmy Wilkinson Cathalune Abernathy Ondalee Burrows Aluce Beeson Norma Davus and Tommy Clevenger The furst class us just startung Boys and gurls open your work book to the furst page ln the confusion Dean pounts to a clown and yells Look at the cyclone The picture fades Here we are again un the second grade We have the same teacher but thus year now that we are much older she takes us on a train to Modoc My but it us excutung The announcer interrupts by sayung The makers of artuficlal wull return with tonight s revue in one moment but furst let us all tell you about Look There we are comuug un from recess Let s follow The little fellows have been promoted to another room Mrs Rubble ls the thurd grade teacher Everyone ls hard at work on number books The spelling llst got longer thus year and so dud the words Mrs Simms guided us through our fourth grade dufficultues with multuplucation tables and other thungs Goodness gracuous ut seems as if the teach er is very angry at some gurls and they are suttung ln theur seats at recess Maybe thus wull teach them not to wade un water and through chunks of uce any more Well maybe when they re un the fufth and suxth what s thus ? They re un more mischief It ls a Halloween party at Bruce s and Harvey s car us goung down a hull all by uts self no ut us beung auded by spooks The spooks aren t feelung so pranky as we see them ln the offuce Mrs Heuser saw to ut that they also studued by askung each student to stand and recute a topic wuthout the book Several were absent thus wunter due to an epudemlc of measles The gurls spent many wintry recesses desugnung clothes for theur paper dolls 'Dlesels may be a wonderful lnventuon but they always go messun up the TV when it gets right unteresting complauns Granny A! the unterference clears the pros pective Seniors go upstaurs to the seventh this fall Aren t we big? Classes change to dufferent rooms there are various teachers and our study halls are wuth the hugh school The students look unhappy they are un the eighth grade but are treated like tots by just havurug one teacher Not only that but Mr Schofueld enforces such chuldush pun lshments as standung un the autograph corner puttung theur noses un a circle stayung in at recess for whusperung or takung a spanking Furst one book then another disappeared unto a hole un the floor that us Since the boys were growung up they started chewung This was back in the days when semester exams were requured Spellung was the most dreaded and everyone studled actordlngly The exam consusted of one long hard three syllable word dog The next scene takes place as Bill Trunder Paulune Cooper Bruce Petro Mary Pangborn Donald Searcy Dean Lester Paula jane McCollum Vurgunua Metsker and Bull johnson take the Freshman seats un the assembly Green? Maybe but not after the unutiation at Pat Quate s Evudently the Sophomores thought we were some sort of green anumal for we played a luvely game of leap frog un the yard A hay rude was planned by the group and Mr Havuza sponsor but ut rauned Instead, hay seed clad as we are the Ruvolu we troupe Part of the gurls have shown a desure for culture by formung a tun Club What preposterous goings on us thus? Oh yes, remember the Latun dunner we had at Paula Janes? There is Mrs johnson eatung an apple dipped un mayonnause feat hard to accomplish while reclunung L 7 . Baccalaureate Services On Sunday April the twenty nlnth the Losantvllle Modoc and Huntsville Seniors met for Baccalaureate Service In the Carlos Chrtstian Church The music furnished by a selected group of twenty voices from the three schools was under the direction of Mrs Fred Wiggins and Mrs Charles Coffin Chosen for their speaker was Reverend Raymond Harris of the First Christian Church of Richmond Indiana Commencement Servzce On Thursday evening May 3rd the Seniors of Losantvxlle Modac and Huntsville received their diplomas ln the first combination Commencement exercises of the Union township The Losantville Seniors decorated the Community Hall with flowers and a patriotic color scheme of red white and blue The Seniors wearing blue caps and gowns marched into the hall to music furnish ed by an orchestra Dr Merrill McFall a Methodist mnntster from Bloommgton Indlana gave the Commencement address Paul H Beck County Superintendent of Schools presented the diplomas Senzor Trzp On May fifth 1951 the junlors and Seniors accompanied by Mrs johnson and Mr Brunegraff left for then' trip We traveled east through Richmond on U S 4-0 That evening we reached Pittsburg and spent the night In the Pittsburg Hotel Our sec ond day was spent seeing interesting sights such as the University of Pittsburg Gettysburg and Washington Cathedral continuing with a drnve down Massachusetts Avenue That night in the Annapolis Hotel we slumbered The third day was spent nn Washington seeing such places as Washington Monument Capitol Buxldlng Supreme Court Building and Congressional Library After lunch we vlsited the Airport Mt The evening was free and the nlght was spent at the Annapolis Hotel On the fourth day we left Washington early and drove to Baltimore and on to Philadelphia where we visited Independence Hall Franklin s grave Betsy Ross s Home Then we crossed the Delaware River and passed through the Lincoln Tunnel into New York City After a free evening the tired group agaln went to the Shelton Hotel for rest On the fifth day we went sight seeing tn the upper and lower New York Cnty The tour Included a three hour boat trxp around Manhattan Island then a glass topped bus met the boat and took us on a tour of lower New York to see Greenwich Village China Town and the Empire State Building We then spent that evemng and the next day as we deslred The seventh day was also spent sight seemg m upper New York Cnty Central Park Columbia Uni versity and Grant s Tomb The eighth day we drove to Niagara Falls seeing the Falls from both the American and Canadian side The night was spent ln the Londoan Hotel London Ontario On the nmth day we came home by way of Chatham and Wmcfsor thus completing our long and eventful Journey Class Motto CLIMB THOUGH THE STEPS BE RUGGED Pink Carnation Rose and Gray Vernon, Smithsonian Institution, National Cemetery and Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, Class Flower Class Colors

As the last picture fades another ls faintly seen but lt ls a scramble of action by us Sophomores Our sweaters have just arrived and we are hunting those never falling com purses parents A little later the class IS shownng off their new class rings To assure ourselves the only way to get a large vocabulary IS by hard work the class pre sents VOCABULARY FOR VICTOR The three second year Latin gurls add to the Jewelry collection with club pins Oh murder Miss Clark s study hall Murder for the teacher of course A lxttle foresight ts shown by the attempts to start making money for the Senior trip The people of Losant are shown looking upstairs downstairs and in the attic but whatever for? Why magaztnes etc for our paper drive The next project takes us to the gym Gala decorations prizes and games are the attractnons at the New Year s Party jolly jumors yes str reeeee and xt looks as if there lS a jolly ole committee meeting ln the library right now lxnay here comes Mrs Wugglns from the study hall The re sult of such meetings was a play Always ln Trouble the Hoosier Cornhuskers and a chill supper Mr Church hired as commercial teacher by nature was not a detective because he never solved the mysterious disappearance of parts from certam typewrlters We three are seen laboring over the school paper That reminds me of the time At last the grand ftnaley Yes we are Sernors Others have come and gone tlll there are just seven of us Mzsery peers znto the crystal ball 89' tells us In the year of our Lord 1961 in the month of june a small barn mouse sat gazmg into a crystal ball lh the gralnery on the Bruce Petro farm situated on the highway whxch passes through the city of Losantvllle This mouse nicknamed Misery felt ln his bones that something speclal was about to happen Misery lS interrupted from these special thoughts by a swoopl-ng zooming sound It s a bird It s Superman No lt s a plane and the pilot IB none other than Glenn Hlmeltck captaxn and pilot ln the U S Alr Force and jet Fighters Mtsery meanders to the ultra modern school where he scares the klndergarden teacher Paula McCollum a graduate of Florida Southern College Virginia and Alvin arrwed on the 10 15 bus at the twenty four mllllon dollar bus termmal located just two blocks fllom the Hub This terminal station owned and operated by Bill Trmder ls the only one of its klnd in Indiana where a commuter can leave his grocery list in the morning and pick up his sack of groceries ln the evening They are met by Dean Lester owner and manager of a thousand acre farm near Losant who will take the class to the Petro farm ln his new custom made Chevy statlon wagon On the second floor of the bus station tn the sweet shop we encounter Mary Pangborn now a prominent social worker nn Chicago She had come down to att d a social worker s convention in Craig Memorial Hall here ln Losantvllle The class reunion was complete with the arrival oi our sponsor Mrs johnson head of the English Department at Losantvllle University The evening was spent viewing programs presented by the local station L.
