Good minds fthe facultyi and excellent facilities ,fthe build- ingsj have been brought to bear on the problems of a successful launching of the projectile-the student. Rocket engineers continue to achieve higher degrees of pre- dictability as to a rocket's reaching its target. Unlike this phys- ical concept of plotting and predicting, the College finishes its task with the launching procedure. The projectile must chart its own course. The College can only enhance your power of self-direction. li LAMBERT ALBERT D. Executive Dean Dean of the College E gg, ,, ,. . ., ft 'I Lita., T. 3.3- FLOYD R. From the days of America's pitchfork pioneers to the present, the hands of free men have played a vital part in the firm and resolute shaping of new frontiers. From the trigger of a stoic long-barrel rifle to the bowl of curling smoke from the Indian peace pipe, the hand has moved in a long line of toil, industry, art and expression. I'n this age of progress, the hands and minds of men have turned toward great works in scienceg first probes into interplanetary space, the miracles of nuclear power and medical research. Indeed, there has never been a more portent demand for intelligent and responsible action on the part of mankind. Los Angeles State College stands with other ever- growing institutions of higher learningg where the pitchfork has been traded for the pencil, where the aspirations, ambitions, and dreams of man rest in the hands and minds of youth searchingf or answers. In the following pages, PITCHFORK records an incident reflection of a free people in action . . . of youth preparing for the great challenge of life in this year of our Lord, 1958-9 A. D.
