7 We a they sand they were golng to have this party and ah I dldnt have anythmg planned for that night so ah I went Anyway pretty soon I looked over In a secluded corner and ah some of my frlends had one of these boxes you know? Well these chucks were feedlng em chlcken and salad and other deslrable culslne and It looked luke a real valuable time And anyway I got there and thus lndlvldual was up ln front of the group trylng to gnve away these boxes you know what I mean? if l wandered up to the front after a whsle and ah these cats were having thenr picture taken because they had bought a prize winner or somethlng and ah It looked like every thmg was goung to turn out real cool BGX SOCIAL So, ah, I bought one of the boxes and thus llttle brunette sand she d feed me chncken and salad for the rest of my Ilfe Well, I related to her the fact that It really wasnt necessary and all, so, ah, she sand she knew a fun game we mlght play, and All In all, lt turned out to be a real cool evening, you know what I mean, man? ill- ! CTO IIPC In PORTS ln our first year of football the eleven man gridiron squad of Los Angeles Pacific Col lege brought honor and glory to the ll'lStI tution Against tremendous oclds a small group of courageous men proved an old adage that determination and will to sacri fice can bring about the realization of a seemingly Impossible goal This years squad was more than Iust a football team lt was symbolic of the fine spirit of our school and exemplified the struggle to survive that has been ours through the years The problems of the squad were innumerable but these only intensified the desire to succeed Such situ ations as the lack of equipment Inadequate fa Iities little or no financial aid sc cl ule difficulties Insufficient personnel to handle the necessary Iobs player dropouts Injuries scholastic InelIgIbIlItIes were only sonoe of the common adversities The chal lenge was more than just winning or losing It was actually a matter of survival But survive the team did. The first practice was held at night on the field of a local playground with no lights. and only six men. Gradually a few more men turned out. but at no time did the number swell to more than a dozen or so. Every night this small band of men would put on their ragged out-moded uniforms and prac- tice from 8200 to 10130 P.lVl. The majority of the practice time was spent on fundamentals and conditioning. Many of tne players saved their own money to buy helmets and other necessities. All this coupled with the players' obligations to their academic work. jobs. and various stu- dent body and church affiliations. made the fine record of the team even more extra- ord nary. The following pages alone record a pictorial study of the team's progress. The sweat, and blood. and tears given by these rnen can be appreciated only by those who shed them.
