ART DEPARTMENT Gfrf Qeparfmenf The Art Department of Los Angeles Pacific College has seen a very busy year. There are more students interested in art this year than there have been for some time. There are twenty students in Professor N. L. Smith's class, with college and high school included and under his direction 5 this class has made remarkable progress. l-le has taught them how to do por- traits, and scenes in oils, crayons, charcoal, and Water colors. Some beautiful work has been turned out by these aspiring young artists. Another branch of this department has been the commercial art class Which was organized the second semester with Walter MacArthur as its teacher. Although this club was a small one, it has been very active this yearn Those who paid their Five Dollar fee to join the club have learned enough about photog- raphy to earn this much and more by taking and developing pictures tor the students. Its sponsor, Professor Walter E. Bagley, has set up the club's equip- ment in the basement of his home which he has used tor a dark room for some time and the boys have been privileged to use this room in which to develop, print, and en- large -their own pictures. GOLDEN GATE CLUB CAMERA CLUB This club gets its name from the beautiful Golden Gate be- tween San Francisco and the Pacific Ocean. Our happiness has been increased also, by the courteous service ot the Waiters and waitresses. Mrs. L. K. Welty, who is the chef in the L. A. P. C. kitchen, was absent during the greater part of the first semester, but Mrs. S. E. Van Note, Mrs. Welty's assistant, Wonderfully filled the vacancy.
