I can remember three years ago, here where the tower stood. It was a majestic landmark towering over the community. Scholastic Excellence From these huge oak walls of this building passed prospering students who achieved an outstanding record of scholastic excellence. It seemed these huge walls would stand for all time. Then, on February 9, 1971 a major earthquake struck the Roman tower. It was a major disaster that men said would put this giant towards demolish- ment. Spirit Came A major transition of 3500 people and a school moved to Fairfax High, 6V2 miles away. We left that tower yet a sense of togetherness, a spirit came with us. Standing Majestically Back on 4600 Olympic Blvd. the remains of a majestic tower stood, now empty, now silent, still standing over the community. A demolition crew approached with huge machines. Piece by piece they unraveled a condemned building. Still the tower remained. Blaze of Glory In a short time flames engulfed the crippled tower. Hundreds witnessed this feat. In the blaze of glory, charred remains of a tower still stood ma- jestically. As time followed only a ghost and a memory followed, but a spirit which was once symbolized by a huge concrete tower still remained. . . . Always Changing . . . 30
