AHEHHISHUPS MESSAGE PRAY a blessing upon the graduates of the Catholic Girls High School our largest and most distinguished school and pray that the promise of youthful years may be redeemed in long and happy lives The success of a school IS measured by the distinguished lives of those who year after vear ao out from its portals The members of the graduating class each year should ask themselves what the school has done for them and what they are good for To be good for something is the anxious hope of a thoughtful graduate To be good for nothing should have no appeal to any young woman That our young women may be good for something they should take the prudent advice of loving parents and follow the helpful encouragement and direction that can Come from their teachers lt IS a sad sight to see a Well trained young Woman good for nothlng because she has not received direc tion or having received it failed to correspond with it A good posit1on in life 1S not the measure of success lt is true that the aim of capital and labor and the politician is on an economically sound basis to give to everyone a plentitude of mater1al blessings While there is nothing 1n bear in mind that human freedom and happy economic conditions can only be realized when grounded on moral principles on obedience to the Command ments and on a recognition of our dependence upon Almighty God by Whom kings reign and princes decree rust things The Divine authority 1S in many countries today usurped by and exerctsed independently of Almighty God Such a philosophy can only enslave its followers The graduates of a Catholic school then should put into practice the ethical teachings of religion They should so live that the community of Wh1ch they form a part would be the better because of unselfish and noble lives These ideas are not strange to the graduates of the Catholic Girls High School The strange thing should be if they neglect to direct their lives according to fellQlOL1S principles The tradrtmons that have been formed by our graduates in the past are an encouragement to hope that the future will be safe and that our young women will do their part in keeping Christian trad1t1ons and beliefs ahve in thought and practice Archbishop of Los Angeles ' 1 religion to oblige us to be hewers of Wood and drawers of Water, We should O
