XX The task of keeping l,2OO men free of aches and pains is the iob of the hospital corpsmen and dental technicians of the H and D Division. On 24-hour call, the men of H and D are always busy sewing up cuts and gashes, giving shots, and administering aid. Corpsmen will listen to your dying pleas for aid only until the suffering becomes unbearable., then they will cheerfully refer you to the doctor. Your health records are kept up to date and all treatments are entered therein. A primary concern of the l-l and D Division is the instruction of all hands in general first aid procedures, including the newest aspects of atomic, biological and chemical warfare.

That is the chiet function ot the navi gator's auartermaster gang. Their responsibility is great and high standards are always maintained. The N Division writes the ship's log, an accurate and detailed history ot the daily lite of the los Angeles. Among its other duties are the procuring ot charts and other navigational publications, cor- recting the ship's clocks, and maintaining the shipls master steering compass in case of a gyl'O COVUPGSS failure. While the l.A. is in port the quartermasters play an important role in rendering honors and ceremO- nies. They furnish the buglers who announce the daily events aboard the ship.
