Assigned to the ship on temporary additional orders While operating in the Far East, l-lU-l Division plays an important role in shipboard life. The helicopter aboard is a HUP-2, or helicop- ter, utility. lt is used for many duties that vvere formerly performed by destroyers such as making daily guard mail trips while in task force to each ship in the force. Besides this they are used for air-sea rescue. The vvhirly-bird is used for gun spotting, cargo carrying, aerial photography, mine spott- ing, and even taxi service.
