Bulkeiey reported tor duty as Chief of Statt, Cruiser Division One Hater Cruiser Division Fivei in April 1954 trom his previous duty as Commander Destroyer Division i32 Where he had been serving in the Western Pacific during the last Six months of the Korean War. Captain Bulkeley graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1933. Since that time he has served in cruisers, gunboats, aircraft carriers, destroyers, motor torpedo boats and amphibious ships.

Rear Admiral Frederick B. Warder, USN, assumed command of Cruiser Division Five in September i954 after service as Deputy Chief of Staff to the Com- mander-in-Chief, Atlantic Fleet. A native of Grafton, West Virginia, the Admiral graduated from the Naval Academy in i925 and reached flag rank in September l952. Though be has had considerable cruiser duty lincluding a tour as commanding officer of USS Colum- busl, the Admiral's maior naval interest has been the submarine service. He has filled a variety of billets there, from supervision of the construction of USS Seavvolf .... which ship he later commanded .... to command of the Submarine School at New London. As skipper of the Seawolf, the Admiral completed seven war patrols and earned the Navy Cross with gold star in lieu of a second award. Later, he served as commander of Submarine Division l22 and led one of the first Wolfpack operations in the Pacific. R ll lllllliilli l.li. llllRH R

Akers, USN, a native of Tennessee, vvas graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in l938, commissioned as ensign, and ordered, interestingly enough, to the battleship USS Tennessee. Thereafter, with the exception ot a short tour in the light cruiser USS Miami, the Com- mander's sea duty centered about destroyers, com- manding two and serving as exectuive otticer in two others. Before reporting to the l.os Angeles in November l954, the Commander headed the Bureau ot Person- nel's Lieutenant Commander Detail Desk.
