Home Economics Interior Decorating was one ofthe new courses added to the overall courses offered in the Home Economics Department, This class also saw more boys enroll in this subject than in any others in the department. Sherri Stevens won the local Homemaker Award for Los Alamos and went on to place second in state. This award is presented annually to a home economics student. The highlight of the year for the entire department was the fashion show held on May 18. At this time all clothing stu- dents model the fashions they made throughout the year. Driverjs cz' The large sign on the Driveris Ed car cautions other drivers not to follow to closely. Once again, the drivers education classes were packed with a majority of sophomores and juniors who were ex- tremely anxious to get their drivers license. The course consists of 18 hours of classroom study during which the student learns the many rules and regulations for safe driving. After completion of their classroom work, stu- dents with the highest grades received the honor of driving first. The remaining students, sometimes, had to drive after school or on Saturdays to meet their 6 hours of re- quired driving. The department received two new cars again this year. For the first time, they purchased a car with an automatic transmission. In addition to this luxury, the cars also had a radio, air conditioning, carpeting, power steering, tinted windows, and seat belts.
