A familiar sight is the rush through the doors at 8:05, really not hurrying to class, just hurrying. Six periods a day devoted to learning and studying is as typical of a student's life as anything Could he. An early event is the annual freshman initiation. Boys come adorned wear- ing diapers and scarfs with vegetable necklaces and makeup: girls Come wearing pettieoats upside down, baggy pants, devoid of makeup and with straight hair. Praise the almighty Seniorsf' was the ery of the day. Trans- portation for the Seniors was even furnished in the form of little red wagons. tj-2-4 .' s With initiation over. thoughts turnecl to football and Homecoming. Pep assemblies are common. and school spirit rises for a championship team. Decorating for the Homecoming tlanee seems to call for much cletennination. The annually festive occasion is not dampened hy threatening weather and the Darade proceeds on seheclule. The fresh- man class wins the first priye award for their float, In the center of attention is the attractive Home- coming court. Spirits rise for the big game and the turnout is im- pressive. The Toppers enter the field through the new Yietory Arch and carry the victory. 1 V 1 0 'Its IN T L W7 2 ti S 'Y 1 an iii? ip 'ma me TOWERS 1 'Q Q-.- N-.QQ np' Carla Peterson 15 crowned uccn of HOIY1CCOfH1Hg by football team co captzuns ack lxlchard and Ioy Van Vleet Homecommff IS 21 mcmorablc ex ent and to be chostn A Illllllllil of the court or to escort the court onto the field xs m honor NN 1th football comes the band a major support at all athlctlc excnts Back to School YN 1hout bool s what would school be and VN1IllOl1t lockers where would books goo Studles are mam and xaued the hbrary IS es sentlal for the work of most of the students nu ,,, 'Han .lf I Www? 8 A long awaited event of the year is Sadie Hawkins, where the girls Finally get their chance! But after the fun is over, one must return to such drudgeries as physics experiments and eating lunch at noon. Almost every weekend. however, are the basketball games. People apparently go not only to watch the action on the court, but to be periodically refreshed by bottled soft drinks and candy bars. 1 ii A fa, 4e,f ?A2 5 ,H li Fifi 9 I 3 xx x One of the major festivities of the year is the Christmas Fonnal, sponsored by the Junior Chamber of Commerce. It takes place during Christmas vacation so that college students retuming home may also attend. Some other enjoyable aspects of school life are the Olion plays and the various arts and crafts classes which are offered. Characteristic of the school assemblies is the traditional ceremony of the flag. The two flag bearers this year are Marshall Wilder and Wayne Wingfield. Another high light of the year is the annual Spanish Club Pinata Party which draws many enthusiasts of the Southwestern culture. Conversation or just plain talk is a main part of student life and where is talk more revealing than across the lunch table. For the juniors comes the momentous occasion, the arrival of the class rings. Mrs. Opal lYingfield's room becomes the center of much activity. Sports are an integral part of the recreation of the student. Skiing at Pajatito Mountain is among the most popular pursuits of all. A popular fall sport is archery.
