I I l I Cambridge Bay Exchange During April, ten lucky Barrhead students were involved in an Exchange with ten Innuit students from Cambridge Bay, N.W.T..While visiting Barrhead the Northern students went to Jasper and Edmonton as well as the town's local farms and businesses.Whi1e in the North, our students slept in igloos, saw caribou and muslerx, went ice fishing and visited an airport, weather station and a Innuit t.v. station. But the highlight of the trip was just experiencing a different culture and lifestyle. The students who were involved were Elaine Laarz, Michelle Robinson, Charmaine Sudom, Rachel Benoit, Arlee Sheets, Tim Fluet, Tom Krawiec, David Reschke, Chawn Bozak and Greg Lehmann. Mr. Shipton Quebec Exchange From Febuary to May of this year, Diana Laarz and myself took part in the Alberta-Quebec Exchange Program. We lived in Quebec for three months We learned many things while were in Quebec. 'our fluency in the French language increased, and we learned about different social and cultural differences. I feel I can say for myself and Diana that this trip was exceptional and an experience we'll never forget. Shannon Treleaven , 1 3 if 1 1 hermit- 'ul'

2 i Educational European Tour Amsterdam-Paris-London On April 20,1984 sixteen students and three adults departed from Edmonton bound for Amsterdam. Despite a long flight, we accompanied our guide on a walking tour of punker city. We perused every shop, visited the main squares, relaxed at outside cafes and visited the Royal Palace. On Easter Sunday morning, we toured a diamond factory fafter which Mr. Cantwell was often heard to say, Do you think this diamond factory is too large for the setting? J, saw famous museums, opera halls, tulip fields, windmills, ending with an en- joyable canal tour of Ansterdam. Colleen Stein demonstrated an interest in flowers and Dutch law while Naomi Gross closely scrutinized a Dutch bicycle and its rider. Later that evening, the students enjoyed discussing political systems and lifestyles with students from various countries at Buddy's Disco. On Monday we had a quiet bus ride to Paris with a stop at Antwerp, Belgium for lunch. On Tuesday we toured Paris by bus seeing the Place de La Concorde, Notre Dame Cathedral, and had lunch on the Eiffle Tower. On our way back to the hotel, the French drivers had Byron Sanderson on his knees! Later we had caricatures and por- traits done outside Pompiedean Centre, rushed through a hasty dinner and slid into Les Folies des Bergeres just after the cur- tain rose for an incredible show of song, dance, and costumes. On Wednesday we had a guided tour of one quarter of the Louvre Museum. After seeing the Mona Lisa, Venus de Milo, Winged Victory, and then losing four members of our group, we had an enjoyable lunch at a French restaurant. Then it was a train ride to Versailles. On our way home, Mrs. Jackson got lost at the Metro Station and much to everyones amazement, found her way back. On Thursday we left Paris and had a calm ferry ride to Dover, where Michelle Martin noticed before boarding our bus that she was short a suitcase fthe only one she broughtl. It was quickly retrieved from its fallen position and we were off to Lon- don, seeing some of the most beautiful countryside in the world. On Friday we had a tour of London including the Tower of London, Westminister Abbey, numerous museums, Buckingham Palace, Picadilly Circus, etc. We took a vacation from our vacation on Saturday and lunched with Mr. and Mrs. Jupe in Thursley. Their seventeenth century home and twelfth century church were a unique experience for us and their hospitality un- matched. Michele enjoyed this trip so much that she paid twice for the train ride! After supper in London, we attended a delightful musical play, The Little Shop of Horrors which had mini-Mac repeating, Feed me! and N.N.S. The overnight ferry trip back to The Hook of Holland was interesting due to a mix-up ending with 12 beds for 19 people. KNO, we did not sharellj At 6:30A.M. Monday, we boarded a bus bound for Amsterdam where we were too early for our hotel roomsg luggage room floors can be quite comfortable. In the afternoon, we went through a Delflt ware factory and Mini-Amsterdam in the Haag. Since it was the Queen's birthday, downtown Amsterdam was one big party when we returned, thus the students made a last visit to Buddy's. This time Lynn Reit- sma emerged with wild earrings but no neck adornments and Shaun MacPherson was complimented on his corridor attire by our hotel manager. On Tuesday, it was back to Edmonton and Barrhead with many proclaiming, We have to do this next year! followed bv Echo Chernuka's, We have to do this again next year! . if
