Clothing, Independent Living, FHA Artist in Residence Mrs. Jane Dickson, the art teacher at Loretto High School has been interested in painting for the largest part of her life. She studied art in high school for two years but did not think of making a career of it until she took a design class in college. After leaving college, she spent a great deal of time stu- dying tole and decorative painting. She taught classes to the public at the Craft d and at Cozy Corner Crafts. Recently she has become interested in portrait paint- ing. In order to practice the techniques that she has learned, Mrs. Dickson de- cided to tackle her two nieces. Heather and Holly. Working from two different photographs and making revision after revision, she spent hours and hours until she was satisfied with the final composi- tion. The students and faculty were treated to a preview of the painting during the January hobby expositions in the library. M rs. Dickson intends to give the portrait to her brother and sister-in-law and pass it down as an heirloom throughout the years. She says that the best time to paint is after a long day at school. “It is very relaxing for me. I can put my thoughts into the paint and what’s going onto the canvas.” “It’s very relaxing for me. Michael Weathers LORETTO FCX)TBALL 1985 The 85 season brought another 3-7 record for the Mustangs. For three years in a row the Mustangs rolled up three wins and seven I losses. At the close of the season four opponents played in the state playoffs, and two were bowl bound. The most disappointing game of the season was Mt. Pleasant. The opportunity was there, but the Mustangs had a hard time preparing for the Tigers The highlight of the season was the last game as the Panthers from Hohenwald were defeated 10-7. The season surfaced an outstanding running back in Darryl Cathey. Gaining a 1002 yards on the season, Darryl promises to be a premier back in 1986. Barring injuries his senior year; Cathey could be the all time Mustang rusher. We graduated eight seniors: Dwayne Vines, Mike Weathes, Troy Simbeck. Stacy Springer, Micheal Jacobs, Scotty Hannah, Troy Cleveland, Micheal Ellis. Vines was out for better than half a season with ligament damage to his wrist. Simbeck missed three games with severe ligament damage in an ankle. Springer missed alot of game time due to ligament damage in a knee. Jacobs suffered a broken hand the first defensive play of the McEwen game, but never missed a down the remainder of the season. Cleveland filled in for Jacobs at center and did an outstanding job to conclude his senior year. Mike Weathers continued with his strong competitive attitude and contributed greatly to the team effort. Micheal Ellis was called on for his only field goal attempt, and was very successful in giving the edge to beat Hohenwald 10-7 in the final. Many an hour went into one field goal and it couldn't have happened to a more deserv- ing athlete. Scotty Hannah may have gained more confidence than any in the lot. Scotty worked hard to become a consistent linebacker during his senior year. The 1986 season looks very promising for the Mustangs; probably the most talented group to come through in sometime. Depth will be a continuing problem in 86. They offer alot of hope and good feelings for a prosperous year. Work hard and good things will happen!! 74 85-86 LADY MUSTANGS The 1985-86 Loretto Mustangs began the season with a very young and inexperienced team. Despite their youthfulness, a winning rason as well as a good tournament finish were key team goals. Season highlights were a 6-4 district record, good for third seed in the district tournament. The Lady Mustangs showed great improvement throughout the year, establishing a strong bench as all team members gained valuable laying time. Season disappointments were tough losses to Lawrenceburg, Lewisburg, and undefeated Class A power, Richland. The biggest disap- ointment was a one point loss to Hohenwald in the District Tournament, thus ending the season at 12-12. The Lady Mustangs were led by their only senior member, Amy Davis, who made the All District Tournament Team and was elected y her teammates as most valuable player. A sophomore, Sherry Richardson, led the team in scoring and made the All District Season cam as well as All District Tournament Team. A season opening win over arch rival Summertown propelled the Mustangs to an early 5-1 record. The middle portion of the schedule saw the Mustangs lose some close games due to injuries, the flu and good opponents: A big win over Lawrenceburg lifted the team s spirit and enabled them to finish the regular season on a high note. The Mustangs began District Tournament play with a win over Hohenwaid qualifying them for the Region Tournament and earn- ing their first District win in four years. An exciting win over Lewisburg earned the Mustangs a third place finish, the highest for a Mustangs team in several years. A tough loss to Greenbrier in the Region Tournament left the Mustangs with a 10-17 record. Individual honors went to Tommy Story and David Weathers, who were named to the Season All District Team. Mark Newton was elected the team's Most Valuable Player.
