MUSTANG '85 We proudly present to you The Mustang 1985. The 1984-85 school year was begun in the midst of the presidential election, the space shuttle voyages and high unemployment. Even though the unemployment picture greatly affected our school, the L.H.S. students managed to get into the Mustang Spirit and make the 1984-85 school year a fantastic success. Because of the enthusiasm of the student body we were able to present these memories of a most memorable year ond the people who made it possible. To all who have contributed to the making of this yearbook, both the students and ‘acuity, we of the yearbook staff thank you. S ALTHOUGH the win was by no means an artistic suc- cess against a less-than- spectacular TYC, it was good enough to break a five-game losing streak and give the Mustangs a 2-6 mark. QB Randy Flippo paced the win with lO-of-18 passing good for 164 yards and two touch- downs He also ran for a score as the Mustangs racked up 372 yards in total offense. TYC STOPPED Loretto’s first advance after the Mustangs reached the enemy six. The Loretto defense kept TYC pinned, however, and the ball soon went over in good field position for the Mustangs. The first TD came late in on Flippo’s he conversion the first per two-yar kick Flippo’s 21-yard sprint-ont- pass to Jeff Duplantis clicked for the Mustangs' next score early in the second quarter and Darrell Cathey added a two-point run to make it 14-0. LORETTO WAS driving for a third score when a fumbled handoff between Flippo and Oscar McDowell fell intoTYC hands at the one-yard-line. The Mustangs still got points out of the drive when TYC quarterback Bobby Durham was sacked by a host of defenders for a safety to give Loretto a 16-0 halftime edge. Flippo’s out-and-up” strike to Stacey Springer was good for 40 yards and a touch- down to opening the third quarter scoring. Michael Ellis’ kick made it 23-zip. THE MUSTANGS stuck to the ground for most of the TYC, which suffers from a rapid turnover of players at the correctional center in Joelton, showed Loretto a hodgepodge of offensive maneuvers ranging from the single wing to shotgun for- mations. They w ere quick but often disorganized as 170 yar- ds in penalities suggets THE VISITORS came ready to play but with only 20 squad members were unable to sustain a fight for four full quarters Loretto was able to substitute freely for the first time this year. Loretto piled up 178 yards rushing with Cathey gaining 69 yards on 12 tries, Buttram 7-46, Flippo 4-26, Tim Davis 3- 22. and McDowell 5-15. Stacey Springer caught three passes for 103 yards to give him 12 for 214 yards in the lasttwogames. Loretto’s next foe is Waynesboro Friday night for the season’s final home game.
